Did you order these through Amazon?? Been thinking about picking up a set like these for my Detours A-pilar mounts.. Just trying to figure out if it is better to do a spot or flood up in that position...

Would definitely do spot on the a-pillars.

That is kind of what I was thinking.. was looking at doing spots on the A-pillar, and a spot bar on the front bumper w/ flood at each end

Meant to post this up on Monday, but I got some new shiny for MY Jeep too....
Picked up a set of these LED lights for pretty cheap.
I may order another set for reverse lights... they are BRIGHT AS HECK!

Those are great lights.. I run 4 of them on my rack to light up the sides.. Mine are floods..

And for an A-pillar, i wouldn't do ANYTHING but a spot... mainly for the glare factor.

Once I get done with the lift revamp, tires and a few other small updates/repairs... including front bumper/sliders.. I plan on doing the A-pillar mounts with pods, going to do either a small bar, or two more pods on the bumper with a fairlead mount.. Once everything else is done, I'll work on mounting my roof rack, then I'll probably do a larger bar on the roof rack.. either way I want to find a way to secure the lights on the bumper and A-pillars, so someone won't relinquish me of ownership... especially before spending money on a larger roof bar.

I would liked to have them on the bumper but they got in the way of the lift gate. A cut out in the bumper with the lights Mounted inside the bumper would be ideal but that's outside of my instant gratification factor.
There's a whole lot of options for all you cool kids with a roof rack.

Quite cold with a heavy frost this morning but, sunny and 50 degrees later so I am going to do some housekeeping on the XJ. Going to the coin wash and give her the once over concentrating on the wheel wells and under carriage. Get as much of the salt and grime off as possible. Follow the wash with a quick spray wax, then a good vacuum of the inside, top off the fluids and she is ready to take on the rest of winter. It's going to be nice to get outside in a sweatshirt and mess around without freezing.

Three hours this afternoon and it's done. The only real problem I found is the paint is peeling off the wheel center caps. i will have to either repaint them in the spring or buy some new ones. Could be time for some new wheels to replace the American Racing steelies.

Replaced my front shocks from my three inch lift with a set of Rough Country 2.2 shocks for the correct lift height 5" and also installed a Rugged Ridge steering box brace. Once again I'm kind of disappointed with the instructions or lack there of from them. Took the jeep for a test drive afterwards and was very happy with the way the shocks performed.

On the way to msmoorenburgs house, Friday, I noticed my 50" lightbar dangling on the passenger side. Turned out the threads seem to be missing and the bar fell down a couple inches. Very surprised the other side was able to sustain it, at all, but it did for a couple miles till I could stop. All I could come up with on the side of the road was throw some zipties on it to the roof rack. It held fine, so I was happy. Got to fixing it yesterday. Drilled it out and tapped it for a much bigger bolt. Don't know why anyone would design a light over four feet long to be held on by one bolt per side, and not even a big one, a m6. And to add to it they only thread it about half an inch.

Yep, there's my threads.

6847

Finally fixed my gauges! I ordered the inverter a while back and it took a bit to show up. Its a bit different than mine, I may have to question the place that sells them because I think this one is a different model. It works anyway though.

6848

Also did some exploring into the ebrake system. Trying to see how I can meld explorer cables into my stock handle linkage. Came up a couple inches short. I'll have to ask around get some ideas.

So during a recent alignment figured out my lower ball joints are worn out. So Operation "balljoint" is in motion. Got driver's side out and new ones in have to complete install tomorrow after work on those and start on pax side.

Upper ball joint required a 3 foot breaker bar with another 3 foot pipe over that to get it to bust out. When it did it practically flew out. I thought for sure the Ball joint press was going to grenade. Lower came right out and they both went in pretty easy.

Spicer joints going in. The lower joint when I took it out flopped around like a wet noodle. Guess lasting 183 thousand miles is good enough in my book. We'll see how these last.

Hook a hose up to the outlet side of the HC basically its just backflushing the core. Just reverse flow of the HC. I havnt done it to the xj but did on my s10 4x4. Very simple to do on that vehicle.

Haven't done it yet, but I picked up one from AZ.. figure if it takes care of my lack of heat issue... then I'll be more then happy with that..

Just as said above if you flush it with a hose backwards of the normal flow then it should break up any sediment built up inside.. I kept going back and forth in directions with my 98 and it worked pretty well.. Hoping I can get an above freezing day so I can try it out on my 97, and hopefully get some sort of resemblance of heat if my T-stat swap doesn't work..

It's been a busy week as far as working on the Jeep.

Monday: Left my seat heater on, got to use my NOCO Genius to jump the battery. That was fun. :) The thing is pretty awesome.

Tuesday: Trucklite LED headlights arrived :bacondance:. popped them in. Absolutely positively awesome and amazing. Now night driving isn't scary.:D:D:D Also tightened steering box.

Wednesday: Horrible creaking noise coming from bushing at the end of the drag link. Bushing is totally shot, split from top to bottom, won't hold grease. Stopped at NAPA and got a new drag link, removed old drag ling but the tie rod won't come off of it, it's spinning inside the bushing. So I think what the hell, might as well replace that too, and do all the ends and get everything done with all at once. Ended up going to 3 more parts stores, and still wasn't able to get everything done because I got the wrong parts.

Thursday: Got the right parts, picked up a V8 ZJ tie rod and ends, took the crappy ones back for refund. Got everything put back together and greased up, looks very nice and much stronger.

Today: Continuing to adjust steering box to find perfect spot. A little too tight right now. Pulling in to work the zip tie holding on the fan shroud broke causing the mechanical fan to hit it. So I fixed that on lunch break. Tonight I plan on final adjustments for the steering box and setting up an appointment for alignment tomorrow. Oh and the horrible creaking sound that caused me to replace my drag link in the first place? it's still there. So it has to be my ball joints. So I will be doing those soon as well. :banghead: So it's been a busy but rewarding week.

Definitely a fan! Maybe I'll put a trip out to SLC on the bucket list to see it in person and do some UTAH wheeling!

Then I replaced the front license plate mount, the one I made with maglite "D" size flash light holders. The clips have held up fine for years! But I broke one hitting the rolling tool box that I have at the front of my parking spot.

Then I turned my attention to the rear. I don't have any of those Rotopax yet, but I wanted to get the license plate off my spare tire so if/when I do I have a place to put them.

Finally got my Dana 44 rear put in. Found out the hard way that you need special axle retainers if you're running disc brakes. So now I have an extra set of 30 spline 44 axles with new bearings and seals pressed on that are for sale. Let me know if anyone is interested. They will fit Drum Brake applications as is.

Indeed it does! Can't wait to see what 35's will do to it :D Getting harder and harder to sell the bugger. Also ran a CarFax on my Cherokee out of curiosity... I'm the 3rd owner and apparently Owner #1 had an accident and it was considered a total loss.... Owner #2 bought it from a dealership and I bought it from him. I don't remember EVER seeing anything amiss on the title or I wouldn't have purchased it for $2k. I need to find the title and double check it. Might be a good reason to get rid of the Cherokee instead of the YJ :( :bang:

Are you familiar with them? He was running 3.71? 231/300 doubler. The hubs double again

Not really, as in experience with them. Just from reading and watching over the years. And to clarify, i meant coolest factory axle. Custom jobs can be made better for sure.

But the ground clearance is undeniable. You gain about 6" i believe over a traditional axle, depending on the choice of course. And you could get them in 5.30:1 gearing but something like 4:10 or 4:56 would be cool. But they actually have some decent drawbacks to consider too. Being portal they put a ton more stress on the links. Kind like putting a 6" block under leaf springs. And the whole pumpkin clearance is hard to overcome without throwing it way up in the air. But its all about compromise. If you want giant tires and can work around some issues they can be great but Without being on 44s or bigger i don't see the amount you would have to lift it being feasible. Unless its not a rig for twisty or sideways action like a mud truck. Heck, those guys jack those things way up anyway so why not!

Picked up my almost complete lift from a friend on Cherokee Jeep Krew on facebook. While I was down that way, I snagged a set of 31x10.50r15 tires. 3 BFG KM1s with 60-70% tread and a brand new Wild Country MTX on TJ Canyons. $350 for the set.

Got home, replaced the driver's side wheel bearing:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CXaRrW8O1Pg/VM2dlcKohjI/AAAAAAAAO44/3-mGxKUJlMU/s800/IMAG1145.jpg

Then threw the 31's on and had a little fun testing them out

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-gSKcuC-H8gM/VM3JLuEtFaI/AAAAAAAAO5g/4KXa2UMCE_I/s800/20150131_192129.jpg

Obviously a HUGE improvement over my 235/75 Goodyear wrangler street tires, but I just gotta say how I LOVE THESE TIRES!!! The just bite and grip and pull.... and get through everything! I put the Wild country on the passenger side rear 'cause that tire does the most driving. Wouldn't mind a full set of them, but at the same time, I wouldn't mind it if the whole set was the KM1s either. Wish I would have gotten the 31's a long time ago.

I do miss my turning radius though so I'll soon be swapping the tires back onto my black d-windows to take advantage of the 3.75" backspacing and get the tires off my control arms.

Great weekend though. Best in a long time.

Well I was getting tired of the sloppy front end so I adjusted the steering sector a bit and that helped a lot. A bit too tight, tweaked it, still not quite right, tweaked it one last time, ahhhh Buttah!
Remember, if you can turn from straight down the road and she does not self correct if you let go the wheel, ITS TOO TIGHT!
Should return to neutral reasonably straight down the road!

Then for the damned annoying two twist of the key, slow start. Though to my self, there is a throttle stop adjustment on the butterfly of the throttle body and I bet that sets the minimum idle until the bypass kicks in... Hmmm!
Gave it a 1/4 turn, a bit better, another, yup right direction, one full turn latter and she starts in about 3 seconds flat then settles down to the factory 750 RPM idle! May not be the magic cure for all but with my old beastly, it worked out just fine! If the bypass can't correct the idle to 750 RPM +-, you have OTHER issues! Seek QUALIFIED advice, not my blathering on!

I did almost the exact same conversion I'm looking to do on my 97 to my 98, minus a different harness upgrade.. Going to give this one a try and see how it works, if it doesn't work out well, then I'll go back to the LMC harness again.. I have to agree that in my 98 the H4 upgrade and harness upgrade was the best upgrade I did to my 98... It'll certainly be one of the best upgrades for my 97... but after what I'm starting with on it... we'll see if it stays the best one.. regardless can't wait to get it installed, so when I do drive it I'll have no issues seeing where I'm going...

Got her dialed in!! I love my XJ.

He claims 20" of clearance at the diffs. They're reverse drive to the hub, then counter to the hub and tire.

So they were geared 3.71 in the pumpkins IIRC. then double again at the hub. so he's over 7 in actual gear ratio. You could run tractor tires and have plenty of gear!!

The portal boxes being geared like that helps keep stress off the shafts too.

I had some steering issues while out on the trail. Headed down a steep grade in a washout driver front got hung on the outside of the rut and flipped my tires to hard left. I backed up straightened out and kept going but could feel some serious tension in the wheel. Peaked under the front, nothing was bent so I kept on but had very little response in the wheel. I'd crank it and it wouldn't t turn much at all. Maybe 20*. We stop for a minute so I popped hood. Input shaft had bottomed out on front driver fender and the flat part of the shaft had actually chipped off a little bit of metal from the fender but everything else looked normal. The shaft was no longer touching fender.

Wheeled for a couple more hours. Steering was ok but wasn't tight like it was when this happened. Turning radius improved too. No idea how the shaft hit the fender or fixed itself.

Anybody jar the front tires good and have something similar?

Pulled too much cable off the drum. Flimsy little hold down POS wasn't doing its job. Headed to home depot hoping to find something that would work. This little dude has a set screw to keep the cable held down. If you've ever tried to start the cable on the drum WITHOUT the hold down, well it sucks. Firemanray and I tried for a few minutes out on the trail. This dude was like 2 bucks and will hold a LOT better than the pos that came on the drum

What kind of front axle do you have? All xj axles I have seen use a unit bearing on the front. Even the 2wd ones.

I read in my Haynes manual that pre-98 2wd XJs have a bearing like that.

^^^This... except I'm not so sure it's pre-98. But definitely non-ABS ealier model xjs. I wish it didn't have traditional spindle axles... then I could put my Jeep center caps on my steel wheels. You can't tell in the pictures of the wheels and tires I posted, but I had to remove the center cap out of the canyons to be able to fit them on. Stupid bulbous bearing caps

Installed the Hella H4 housings and the 80/100w bulbs along with the upgrade harness, couldn't figure out what was going on with my high beams, then I remembered when I had done the H4 upgrade in my 98 I was having the same issues, and I remembered you have to pull the Fog Light relay or rewire something other wise it gets stuck on high beams.. so since I have no actual fog lights installed for whatever reason, I went ahead and pulled the relay, and ops check was good...

Then I pulled the trim and the headliner out of the Jeep so it'll be ready to modify and recover eventually, and installed my OHC that I had purchased a few months back.. was a bit of a PITA to run the harness, but once I outsmarted the harness, I got it all installed and wired up and everything works good with it as well.. so for now I'll be looking for a 98+ headliner with the integrated sound bar, and the updated rear dome light.. and then I'll cut it out for the OHC brackets, and go ahead and get it recovered so I won't have to worry about it sagging after reinstalling it... (on an interesting note... I found out that some of the upper trim panels were metal not plastic... thought that was odd as I thought they were all plastic)...

I also was able to work out the old sleeve with the seized bolt out of the IRO double shear TB sitting in my garage, and installed the brand new bushings and sleeve I purchased through IRO, so now the TB is ready to install when I do the suspension revamp..

Yesterday I got back to a tiny project I started a few days ago. Turned into 5 hours and a big headache. I simply wanted to remove the driving lights on the bumper and remount them to the prerunner bar to keep the bar from blocking so much light since I used them on the road constantly. Well, finding the right position took a bit but it was mainly an electrical gremlin that caused so much frustration. The drivers side wouldn't light once I remounted it. :bang: So after some troubleshooting I ran the ground straight to the battery, walla! So I proceeded to butcher up the ground to extend it where I thought it would get better contact. For some reason, even though I've soldered for years, I just couldn't get the solder to cooperate. Tried 4 different solders but none of them would work. I recently switched from the solder I used for years. But anyway, I got the ground positioned and the light still didn't work. :banghead: After more troubleshooting I tried another bulb. You guessed it! Somewhere in there the bulb must have blown. Didn't look like it but wouldn't light up even wired straight up. So, reassembled and re-aimed them.

Saturday, I pulled the e-brake handle from a parts jeep to replace the broken one in my xj. Used a bench grinder to remove some rust, and painted the viable part black. Install to come soon.

Also, the '00 xj I bought for $800 had a driver's door that wouldn't lock even with the key. Went to replace the mechanism, but Matt found that the rod just needed replacement and now it locks. Hopefully it'll sell real soon now. It's at a buddy's shop waiting to be sold and he's actually gonna replace the valve cover gasket for me too. Great guy.

Then, I removed the seat in my yj to get a good look at the cancer underneath. Pretty bad, but I've seen worse on here. Actually looks like somebody used silicone to replace some sheet metal under there before

Is that one of the Badlands winches from HF??

You've been busy Denver! Looks like the grand is gonna handle it well. Doubt that hemi will be strained too much.

I doubt it will either.. I know my Hemi in my 09 Ram doesn't have any issues towing my Jeep, and def didn't strain carrying my car and then some all the way from DE to SC, kept an eye on the trans temp using the onboard gauges as well as my tuner, and everything stayed pretty much standard, with the exception of a bit of a climb through the mountains, but even then didn't strain or go up too much.. Look forward to hearing an after action report on how the Grand did either way...

I came home from my mission to my Under Cover Fab diff covers and JeeperNCreepers upgraded battery cables.. Now I just wish the weather would hold off for a day so I can install the cables and my new battery that is sitting in my house.. It is too darn cold w/ a bitter wind that cuts through everything you're wearing.. If the wind will at least drop off, I'll go out and install the cables and battery..

I collected quite a few parts last week. Still got front locker and diff cover to do.

Grand: I think it will be fine. No brakes on this trailer so stopping it is my only concern. Bit rainy today as well. Good tires and I'll give everything plenty of room.

No its an Engo 10k. Does quite well for a $400'ish winch. I'm going to disect the remote and mount it to the dash while I'm waiting for rain the break

What tuner are you running? I looked at a few chips and programmers just not sure what to get. I'd like to improve efficiency. Controlling shift points etc isn't something I need I don't think

I have a Diablo Trinity T1000.. I have enjoyed it quite a bit.. even more as I play with it and find other options I can change out.. I can't wait to save up a bit of money and get it "custom" tuned for my truck w/ intake and exhaust setup I have.. But for now I run the 93 Octane tune on it, and have turned the MDS off as it is ultimately useless when I'm driving around town, and sounds like crap with any exhaust.. When I'm towing or driving on the highway for a long time I turn the MDS back on.. Do you have the Tow/Haul button option on your GC??

denverd1
02-17-2015, 12:59 AM
Yes there's a tow haul button and it goes into manual mode sort of. You can downshift and control the Trans when its on. You can normally too, it's just easier.

The Grand did OK today. I'll post up details later. Had a ton of fun, it was slick as rhino snot but oh so fun.

After plowing during a blizzard, last weekend, I got quite a bit of mist inside. I had to open the window just to see anything a couple of times. After parking it, the next day I went out to plow when it was nicer but much colder out. Went to turn the key and the key wouldn't even go in all the way. Had to use the tractor to plow.
Anyway, eventually put a heater inside the XJ but still had to rap the key a bit with a rubber mallet for it to go in all the way. Decided to remove the lock assembly and clean it out well. It's all working well again.

update on the Grand and its towing ability:

It's not built to tow. I'm sure I overheated the trans, felt like I was driving on the zipper went it shifted to OD. It did that twice so I got off the interstate and stopped running 80+ mph with 4500 lbs behind me. It shifted hard once more then I got it cooled down. So it will need a tranny cooler and temp gauge before I can trust it towing again. I thought a limited would have come with a tow package but I'm not finding a tranny cooler. really need to look it over with some daylight.

MPG's SUCKED. I think I saw 9.2 on the dash at one point. I'm getting 12.5 putting around town. haven't had it on interstate without a trailer yet.

Braking was OK. better than I expected actually. it survived towing the brakeless trailer - which I learned is illegal. guess I'll be adding electric brakes to it.

and its making some weird noise in the rear end braking with weight on the hitch. thinking control arm bushings. PO is going to have it diagnosed for me

Yeah, I was hoping I wouldn't have to pull the carrier but it turns out with my gear ratio (3.55, I think above 3.73 you can) you can't remove the cross-shaft with the ring gear still installed. So I spent at least an hour wrestling that bugger out of there.

The WJ we have here had a tranny cooler on it as well as the cooler in the radiator. Also, there is on the 99 according to the manual an over temp function for the tranny. It automatically puts you down to direct drive if it is too hot. Also, I believe it says that you should not tow in overdrive

Yep installed and driven to work a few times now. Everything appears to be working well so far. IIRC from what I've read, you don't need to pull the carrier from the 8.25 in any gear ratio to get the cross-shaft out but with the Dana 30 under 3.73 you have to remove the carrier and ring gear in order to remove the cross-shaft. Could be remembering these numbers a bit wrong though.

Looking at your combo i'm betting you're closer to 5500lbs. That's a good bit of weight. Do you have a weight distributing hitch? Those are suppose to really help with maintaining a controlled stance.

The trans cooler is a must! Cheap insurance really.

Those brakes are gonna make it a lot nicer. The peace of mind is well worth it. No matter the law that's a lot of weight pushing you around, and probably even weighs more than the grand.

tow/haul let me get to 5th gear. I could've kept it at 4th but was revving pretty high 3500/3750 IIRC.

So there could be a cooler somewhere else? there is a very thin coil plate in front of the radiator. maybe 4" tall and runs the width of the rad. If thats it, it needs a much bigger cooler. I've been busy with work and going out of town tomorrow morning, so I'll give her a looksee when I get back. Maybe the owners manual would make good in-flight entertainment.

I have stock Grand that couldn't tow a fat guy to the grocery store. no dist hitch.

I don't claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I'm damn sure not the dullest either. I'm not seeing how transferring weight (like a dist hitch would) back to the trailer does anything at all to help the situation. seems pretty gimmicky to me, although I've never had one. I could a bag on concrete on the hood and accomplish more IMO

To be honest I've never used one before either but most of our towing experience is with duallys so we didn't really need it. But its suppose to spread the weight across the front and rear so you don't strain the rear with so much weight and take weight off the front tires. Better for handling, ride, and braking. At least that's how it makes sense in my head.

Wouldn't work for me lol. She gets all the receipts so I can't get anything by her. Plus now that the Jeep isn't a DD, she says "Do you really NEED that right now?". I promised her the profits off this one to go towards the new house, but I'll get most of the profits off the sale of the YJ.... or XJ... still can't decide which! But at least now I've proven that I can haggle a low price and make 150% profit from flipping cars in less than a month, maybe she'll let me do it more often.

I supplement my income a bit by flipping jeeps. It is a bit addicting.

Saturday was YJ floor day. Really isn't much to it but I had never done it before. Had a ton of fun though.

This is what I was able to remove with just my hands

Then I got out the grinder and went to town

http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo7/thestalliontruck/1988%20YJ/20150221_115012_zpsuptaeogf.jpg (http://s356.photobucket.com/user/thestalliontruck/media/1988%20YJ/20150221_115012_zpsuptaeogf.jpg.html)

While I had the floor out, I needed to address a broken body mount nut. This was the genius solution that Matt came up with and it worked like a charm.

http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo7/thestalliontruck/1988%20YJ/20150221_123019_zpsulm0hcqu.jpg (http://s356.photobucket.com/user/thestalliontruck/media/1988%20YJ/20150221_123019_zpsulm0hcqu.jpg.html)

Then it was time to trim down some sheet metal. I used metal from several different scrap pieces so I could use existing bends and folds to my advantage. The one piece with the "Jeep" logo was part of a body panel that I couldn't resist using. Matt got them tacked in, but ran out of gas so we'll finish up the welds another time.

Finished up with mounting the ebrake lever and console. More work than anticipated but not too bad. Had to drill two new holes in the tunnel to bolt down the brake lever. Made two brackets to mount the console to existing the brackets. Also cleaned up the "new" pieces and painted the hinge for the lid. Came out pretty good.

7050

Found some buried treasure...

7051

Here you can see the front bracket I made. Bent it over to give it some strength.

7052

And the rear one. Just made it so I could bolt the console to it from the inside like the old one.

7053

The new and old brake lever. You can somewhat tell the difference. The old is mounted with two bolts, new with three. And only one was kinda close to lining up.

7054

Sadly the console is a fair bit smaller than the older one. I can't fit my siren nor my cb inside, the old one barely fit both together.

7055

Which is surprising because the new one is a sew inches taller. Here's a few comparison shots.

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/xj-wheeler/Stormy%202/P12808072.jpg (http://s1108.photobucket.com/user/xj-wheeler/media/Stormy%202/P12808072.jpg.html)

uuuuggghhhhh...... I have to do this to mine soon. Not looking forward to it.

Started swapping ebrake handles/cables and center console to a '97+ setup. Don't know who thought of this at first but almost nothing bolts up. Got the console mounted with two new brackets. Still gotta get the ebrake handle bolted down and run the cables. Oh, and looks like i goofed and forgot to grab a few pieces when i got the console at the junkyard. So i'll need to find those before it'll all work. Pics tomorrow.

Sent via messenger pigeon - i talk, he types.

Sooooooo how'd you get it in there then?

Saturday was YJ floor day. Really isn't much to it but I had never done it before. Had a ton of fun though.

This is what I was able to remove with just my hands

http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo7/thestalliontruck/1988%20YJ/20150221_095237_zps5gdmj9du.jpg (http://s356.photobucket.com/user/thestalliontruck/media/1988%20YJ/20150221_095237_zps5gdmj9du.jpg.html)

Then I got out the grinder and went to town

http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo7/thestalliontruck/1988%20YJ/20150221_115012_zpsuptaeogf.jpg (http://s356.photobucket.com/user/thestalliontruck/media/1988%20YJ/20150221_115012_zpsuptaeogf.jpg.html)

While I had the floor out, I needed to address a broken body mount nut. This was the genius solution that Matt came up with and it worked like a charm.

http://i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo7/thestalliontruck/1988%20YJ/20150221_123019_zpsulm0hcqu.jpg (http://s356.photobucket.com/user/thestalliontruck/media/1988%20YJ/20150221_123019_zpsulm0hcqu.jpg.html)

Then it was time to trim down some sheet metal. I used metal from several different scrap pieces so I could use existing bends and folds to my advantage. The one piece with the "Jeep" logo was part of a body panel that I couldn't resist using. Matt got them tacked in, but ran out of gas so we'll finish up the welds another time.

Matt was off playing with his MG and it's coming along nicely. You can see him dreaming in this pic :D

Yup.... still not looking forward to it.

And all installed, of course missing a few items as previously mentioned. Need to find a t-case shift bezel, vent tube, and non-broken latch...

LOL! I had to make two brackets to screw it down the console and drill two new holes for the ebrake lever. Also opened up the hole in the plastic piece that goes under the ebrake lever.

This is the front bracket that goes just to the right of the transmission shifter. I made it utilize two holes in the new console and bolt to the original bracket on the tunnel.

7088

Here it is mounted.

7089

The rear bracket. Again I utilized the original mounting points for the rear of the old console and two new holes in the bottom of the storage area of the new console so screws attach to the top of the bracket.

7090

The difference in the ebrake lever brackets. New on left. Note the old uses two holes and new three.

7091

Ebrake lever mounted.

7092

The plastic piece below the ebrake lever, had to open the hole a bit so the cable would go through smoothly.

7093

Although I didn't have the vent tube to test so I may have to change things a bit when I get one. And the new ebrake lever won't hook up to the old cables so unless you have done the rear disc swap you will have to get inventive to hook it up. As well the old lever is centered whereas the new is offset to the driver side. So using the old lever with new console wouldn't fit.

I love the difference in brightness between the harness and without it... Which harness did you pick up?? I will say there isn't a whole lot of spare room to easily move the harness though, def takes a little bit of time to run... I did mine on the 97 I have now, and finished it up holding a flashlight, so I didn't have to try and hope the weather the next day was decent enough to be out in.. I hate the NE winter!!

I bought another TJ last week. Pulled the carpet and back seat, smelled like wet dog.
Drove it in the snow Friday night, confirming what I already new, it had the worst snow tires ever made. 7 hours of playing slip and slide. Not fun. Saturday after work swapped tires off the YJ, it has studded tires. Heater didn't blow hot air. Pulled heater hoses and flushed the brown crud out of the heater core now have heat.

Get a deal as good as the last??? Those deals don't come along in Texas on the TJ's. Everybody here thinks they are made with gold and won't part with them for less than double their worth

Ordered up the hardware to mount my sliders... So here in the next day or so I plan on hitting up HD to pick up some cut off discs so I can grind the half a$$ welds that someone used to instal the sliders onto the old 90, so I can pull them off and clean them up so they'll be ready to install on the 97 once the weather warms up or I find a warmer place to work on it some...

Once again I took the jeep wheeling on the trails by my house. Took a different line on one trail and almost flipped it. Luckily a lightpole broke my fall. However it did cause some scratches, those who know me know im super upset about that.

After I got over the unimaginable grief of the new scratches, I installed this super hi-tech cup holder on my half door.
