The passed few days I have had a bit of time to work on the prerunner bar. Its just about ready to put on. I got the upper bars cut, bent and welded on. Even though I spent hours grinding the tubes they still didn't do well with the welding, somewhat better though. The welder I am using doesn't have much adjustability so i'm sure that didn't help. But its together none the less. I added some 1/8" flat plate for light mounts, one long one on top and two short ones for the main bar in case I want to relocate my driving lights. I got some primer on it and will let that dry overnight, maybe a day or two depending on whats going on.

Getting things tacked.

The light mounts. Top long one...

True story...

Driving down the highway about 70 mph. I was trying to keep it 65 before, but double checked the odometer and I figured 478 miles was close enough to the 500 mile break in. I'll just keep it at 70. Then I thought, I'll do the oil change this weekend.

I barely got that thought in my head when boom! The engine went dead. I mean D E D dead.

6636

I put it in neutral, I was coming off an over pass and there was a long line of cars merging into the highway. So I pulled off in a large triangular area and flipped on the hazards.

I tried cranking it (actually did that while I was coasting) Wouldn't even TRY to start. I checked fuses, I tried swapping the starter relay. No change. I tried taking the line off the coil, no change.

I noticed there was a check engine light. Looked it up using my phone "Torque" and the little blue tooth nub I leave in my OBDII port 24x7.

P0350 Hit the look up on the little screen and it said...
- Faulty Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary
- Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary harness is open or shorted
- Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

Called Matt, he said it was probably the coil or the wiring to the coil.

It was getting dark, so hello "AAA".

After getting home and getting some food in me, I swapped out the coil... Started right up. First time I've ever had a coil go bad on me. Fortunately I had 2 spares. :D

Nope I had a Performance Distributors Jeep FirePower ignition kit on my motor in the past, so I just grabbed that coil. I have another stock coil and I can't remember why I bought it now.

Anyway that demon coil is on there now.

Dont feel bad. Some chooch welded mine at 3 different angles looks like a ugly "Z" . I have a sliced front pipe doesnt get annoying but should replace ot before too much salt rots it wide open. Im just thankful other then the uneducated repairs before me that the majority of failures have all been factory parts that have failed. This past week was just me having to fix the PO issues to do the repair right. However all fixes have been free labor and cheap parts. Full tune up and new thermo housing, thermo and gasket. The bad part is i replaced the thermo in my 2007 grand prix start to finish in 2 minutes 42 seconds with bleed off completed.

the tire changer? yea, im not a big guy nor very strong anymore. so it takes some grunt . the changer is very basic but very useful. set tire down. use lever to pry down and break bead.
then put on top screw down the wheel brace. then use the spoon deal and run around the pole thing and it prys up the bead off the tire. putting tire on is harder though.
all the videos i watched showed it very easy for people but i struggled.
i bolted mine to the top of a round oak table. busted it by the 5th tire change.
it was $40 from harbor freight. paid for itself in 1 set of tires changed

Inverter. Since they're LED I can just run a small one that plugs into the lighter outlet.

We have run Christmas lights on several vehicles for many years, many different colors, and have never gotten hassled about it. I think it would take a pretty sour cop to say anything about a few lights during this time. However I think flashing lights may be a bit too much.

Picked up a "spare" Engine/Trans, brand new header panel and some seats for it.. The engine is a high mileage like my currently installed motor... so my plan is to tear it down check things out and freshen it up with new seals, rings, bearings and swap out the current motor to tear down and do either a good/thorough rebuild on it, or do a budget stroker on it if I don't do a stroker build on the current "spare" engine.. Figure never hurts to have the transmission for a spare.. might do a rebuild on it as well to have a really good trans to throw in it... but will see how funds are as I start tearing the engine apart as to how it'll be built/rebuilt... The header panel is to replace the current one that has a small hole in the lower passenger side... but am not too worried about swapping that out at this time, but at least I have the parts to do it when the time comes...

Yeah, not sure on that one... I checked out a few in JY's, as well as talking to people stripping down XJ's before going to the JY, and they all have either similar damage or far worse... Kind of odd... My old 98 had a little bit of spider webbing on the top of it... but it was the clear coat... so nothing too detrimental there.. but others all seem to have huge issues for some reason.. guess cause it covers the complete front, so anything hitting the front has to hit the header panel... only thing I can come up with..

Yeah that is one thing I love about the 97+ is the metal rear hatch... Not real sure what the 97+ header panels are made out of, the hole in my current header panel looks to be fiberglass, but not positive... The new one that I picked up, not sure if it is a new factory part, or an aftermarket reproduction type part, but it felt like it was made out of plastic.. either way it'll be a black header panel for a bit whenever I get around to swapping it out... Heck, I might just hang it up in the garage and keep it as a spare in case the current one gets damaged further... or till I get everything else where I want, and the hole in the current panel drives me crazy... heck, I might even patch the hole in the current panel, and bedline over the whole panel.. or do something... we'll see... I got quite a bit of other items I want to take care of first... least of my worries for now...

Yeah, you've got lot of options too. I was given a header panel for a b-day gift a few years back for wall art but hey, its in good enough shape for a spare. Although if i'm swapping it out i'll probably go with the 97+. You may be right about it being plastic, at least on the newer ones. Never checked on one.

Changing out a cracked exhaust manifold was one of the most frustrating things I've done on the XJ. I think I literally took 45 minutes making one bolt/nut tight.

So frustrating in fact that I started searching on Amazon for a set of extra long open/boxed end wrenches.

Got side swiped in the driveway by our Fitness Trainer a couple weeks ago. :banghead: He hit the front left flair, his mirror went down the door and left a big plastic smear mark and hit the front left door handle, his right side scraped the left rear flair, and tore the left bumper cover mostly off, as it was hanging.

Front flair was only popped out of the metal holder, easy fix, rear flair was OK, minor scratch, not going to repair, bent the bumper cover holder bracket, took me 15 minutes to straighten it out. I busted one of the rear flair bolt studs when I removed it, and picked that up at a junk yard, and they ordered me a new cover for $28. I buffed out the plastic mark and scuffs on the flairs. So, I'm going to get out of this with a little rubbing compound, a bit of primer around the rear bracket, a used part, one new part, and all under $50 bucks. Will finish it Saturday.:bacondance:

His car, new mirror, full side paint including substantial body work around one door. $1500.

Love my Cherokee!

Brakes on the grand

I changed the rear pads and rotors on my girlfriends WJ. Holy crap was the bolts holding the caliper bracket hard to get out. Screwed around with them for a half hour with the cordless impacts and got 3 of the 4 out. 4th wouldn't budge.

Then I read that they used thread locker on them from the factory. I little bit of time with a torch and the last one zipped out. The things you learn when the job is done, only to lock away and probably never use again.

I'm just gonna recap the last few days. I've been working on the decorations every day up to sunday. Probably put about 35 hours into it. And I am finished... I think. I could do more but its already taken up too much time. I finished up the outside stuff and also began and finished the interior decorations. My final number of Christmas bulbs is 1,064! My goal was 1k and with all of them added up I made it. I still need to get it out in the yard and photograph the entire thing but here's a couple new ones since I last reported in.

Took it out to get some dinner last night and just as last year people went nuts. Waiting at a red light I had a tundra pull up next to me and say they had a house that is set up with a big Christmas show and lighting display and really want me to stop by with the jeep so they can take a pic in front of their house. :p Also had a couple of girls leaving HEB freak out and stopped me in the road so they could take pictures in front of it. But I did figure out it somehow makes Houston drivers more courteous. For the first time in a long time no one cut me off or pulled out in front of me at an intersection. My best guess is they didn't know what to make of it till I came by.

But, at the end of my drive I found that once again my transmission line fitting at the radiator was leaking, although this time it was where the line clipped onto the fitting. So today I took it apart and replaced the O-rings. Hopefully that fixes it, i'll test it in a couple days when I can, but I was wondering something. If anyone has cut the quick disconnect fitting off the trans line and just put it on the fitting with a hose clamp. It looks to have enough length, just barely, and approximately the right size. Just wanted confirmation should it continue to leak and I get tired off messing with the connector.

Just to be sure I am talking about the one on the bottom of the picture. Sorry for the sucky pic, it was the best I had in my album.

I used to use braided hose and earl fittings on trans and oil lines. Ran about 60psi in the oil side but even in a 425hp sbc with a built th350 the lines held tight. Even at the track it was nice not having to worry about them. Check summit and jegs buddy.

Can't wait to get light bar on order and installed in my XJ.. Trying to work out wiring them to a factory fog light switch, using the light bars wiring to the factory switch.. just got to figure that all out, as far as how I'm going to hook it all up... Might have to ditch either rear windshield wiper or rear window defrost in place of a second fog light switch.. Going to get either a set of pods or one 10-15" bar for the bumper (once I figure out mounts)... then once I get that taken care of I'll look into mounting my roof rack and doing a bar on the front and two pods on the back for extra lighting..

James, if you work it right, you can put three switches in there instead of two. Use the Carling switches.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/2012-05-15_20-24-58_619.jpg

carling also makes special matching switches for rear defrost and wiper

Was going to see if there was any switches that would install into the stock locations (hopefully without having to cut/modify), don't mind if they have the same covers like the ones you posted up Steve.. especially if I could find some dual position switches... then I might be able to use the same one for the front & rear lights on the rack... although that wouldn't allow me to run them both at the same time.. that's ok, since I'll still have lights on the front bumper I could run if I need the extra lighting up front.. figure the rear ones on the rack would only be used when doing work behind the Jeep, backing up, or just camping, not all the time like the front ones would be..

I have a thread called really cool switches in the tech section. There is a link there for a guy in CA that does custom work. Give him a a call and tell him what you want. There are at least a dozen configurations of those size rocker switches, as well as several covers. If you get switches from him, he sends wiring instructions with them. Also, you might want to check Carlings website for info. But better do that one on a computer. It is almost sensory overload. Be sure to check out the specialty switches

I'll take a look for that thread Steve.. Did find that my XJ had the factory fogs, and someone removed them for whatever reason, but the wiring appears to still be there, and I pulled the switch panel today to find that the harness plug is still there, just needed a switch, which I happen to have a spare or two from my stock of spare parts from the 98.. Plugged it in, and everything looks good... Guessing the stock lights were pulled cause they were probably full of mud/water and looked like crap as that is what was up with my stock fogs on my 98.. plan on running a harness that I receive with my LED lights when I get them ordered up for the bumpers and run new wires to the factory switch if I don't find another solution.. at least for now.. Once I get other lights in other positions I'll run newer upgraded style switches for those...

Yeah you and me both... I've been thinking about picking up some pods for the bumper, and get the covers to throw on during in climate weather like Tony got for the Amber coloring.. That way I can use them whenever I need extra light.. That is why I've been thinking about wiring the bumper lights to my factory switch..

Got all bumper and tie in brackets coated in liner... Debating about possibly doing more coats after moving the bumper and noticing that some of the liner had come off that was in contact with the milk crates.. The contact points that ware showing down to the primer, had been coated and drying for about 5 days before I put that part down in the first place.. so I would think would have been as cured as possible.. at least the primer stayed... so I know that part should be good if nothing else.. coated the points again and hope that after I let that set a bit longer then move it to the house for more heat time to cure.. it'll not just easily peel off with slight contact as it did this time.. really worried about mounting it up.. guess I'll make sure and cover it with a blanket before doing the install to try and protect it as much as possible..

Let the Jeep run for almost 30 minutes sitting still in the driveway and the temp stayed below the middle mark consistently.. drove it around the block a few times afterwards and got on it quite a few times and it ran like a champ and didn't overheat.. so hopefully installing the shroud has helped, but I'm sure the much lower temps made a difference, so I guess the real test won't be till the temps warm up next year...

Verified that the complete factory fog light setup is still in the Jeep, minus the factory lights and the switch.. I installed one from my spare parts stock, and verified it all works correctly, just need some lights.. Swapped out the well overdue wiper blades, wasn't necessary for inspection, but at least now I know they'll be good, and will look good and not like crap like the old ones did when I take it in for inspection.. Figure if it looks like the owner cares about it, then they won't scrutinize it when I hit up inspection, which I hope to hit tomorrow since it is too late to do it today..

Moved the bumper and tie in brackets over from the garage into the house so hopefully the heat inside the house will help cure the bed liner I put on it... unfortunately while moving it over I managed to put a small scratch on the stinger on my belt buckle... For some reason this stuff seems to have cured, but not fully... I'm assuming due to the temperature in the garage, even though I had the heater running for roughly 4 hours after I sprayed it as that is what the instructions said... but the primer has held fast each time the liner has come off the bumper, like the small scratch I have now you can see the primer under neath... so I'm pretty happy knowing my prep for that portion was good.. now if I can just figure out how to get the liner to stay on there... Figure the heat in the house should hopefully help, and I"ll get it installed here shortly... Once it warms up outside, I'll touch up that scratch any other damage that manages to appear while doing the install, not too worried about it now, as it isn't too noticeable, and I figure some more might happen during install anyways..

Took my XJ to discount tire the other day to have air put in one of my tires, they refused to do it do to new policy stating, if the tire pressure is under 15PSI they cant touch the tire unless i want them to remove it and "fix" the problem, which at the time would have taken about 1.5 hours. I then asked them how is that policy good for every customer? If i dont have the time to wait, and my tire is low just from having sat for a while, you are going to send me back out on the road with a tire under 15 PSI? Sounds like a dumb liability to take on. Frustrated, i just drove it back home and it sits in the driveway listing to one side because of my 9 PSI tire in the front. The little air compressor I had takes 30-60 mins to fill 33's, and even then no where close to 25 psi or more.

Sorry it took so long to get this update going. No excuses, just a really busy time.

Saturday I took my XJ to a local event where 28 (how many ended up showing up) jeeps were decked out in Christmas dรฉcor and gathered in a lot. Then we headed to a big neighborhood that is known for having a lot of lighting displays and after caravanning through there we went back for some eats. Now, this was a blast at the very least. Trying to get a long line of jeeps to stay together and trail our way through there was hilarious. Things got mixed up and I ended up leading half the group for a bit till we found the others. Met some great people, as well as seeing some from last year. Even though there were mishaps I wouldn't change a think. Just one of those times even the problems are a good time. I'll start a new thread for ALL the pics but here's a few for now.

And after we left the group and headed back toward home we figured it was a good time to go by that house we got invited to last week. The owner was shocked. He said that when his wife told him what she saw and told us to come by he thought she was just exaggerating and all those decorations wouldn't hold up. Really cool guy though. He showed me his set up. It was amazing. RGB trees and a whole lot of controllers, circuit boards, and a lot of lights. He knows his stuff. He even showed me how to set my jeep up for animation. Can't say I understood any of it but it did sound cool and it did get the gears upstairs turning. But very nice people and they even had me back in their driveway so they could take pictures.

There are relays under the hood in the PDC (i think) ... but the switch is usually the culprit. I did an article on how to rebuild them/refresh them at least... it MIGHT help in your situation. http://www.xjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=11357

I would also take a look at the grounds for the lights, maybe even consider running your own. Double check the fuses, make sure they're not corroded. And lastly, double check the connections at the lights.... I guess there's always a chance the plugs are just loose.

Had a bit of a scare with the girlfriends TJ too. Stopped at a gas station and after filling up tried to shift out of park and.... NOTHING! The shifter just flopped around and wouldn't stick in any gear. My first thought, "DAMN YOU CHRYSLER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS!" Second thought, "AWWW MAN, I just filled this thing up!". After regaining my composure, I started thinking logically and checked that the shift cable was actually actuating the selector on the transmission (it wasn't) so I had my girlfriend stand on the brake while I manually put the transmission into drive then we were able to get it home. Turns out the cable is held in place on the shift lever by a little plastic clip and that was what broke. Temporarily fixed with a zip tie until a more permanent (and less plastic-y) solution is found.

From what I understand, the most important numbers are cfm at working pressure and the capacity. My 20G tank with 4.6cfm @90psi can usually take off at least 10 lug nuts before it starts to recharge the tank, but it really depends on the tool some require a lot more than 4.6cfm @psi some require a bit less. My die grinder will only run for about 30s before it starts to recharge because it requires something like 9cfm @90psi.

This is the one my girlfriend got me for Xmas last year (It was about half that price when she bought it though).

I purchased an Overhead Console that came out of a 97, so the wiring won't have to modified and worked out to get it to work... It's coming with the console, harness, bracket w/ screws to attach it, and he's going to send me the fabric off the donor headliner, so I can use it as a template to make sure I get the right locations and sizes for the cuts required... Figure once I get it here, I'll figure out how I plan on mounting my CB (which I still have to purchase) into it.. Can't wait to get rid of the crappy stock 96- dome light... which is sad cause I haven't even really gotten to drive it, and that light is driving me crazy...

Not my Rednose... the one I want is still down in SC... If I can find a place with a fenced yard to rent, I'll go down and pick him up... One of the sweetest I've ever met, and went through a few def tests of temperament when I was down in SC the last time, and he did an amazing job every time, even with me being nervous and a bit scared around him... Got a friend who is getting ready to bread his red nose... so thinking about picking up a pup from him, just got to find out about this Pitty ban the state, and especially the city I live in... cause I'd hate to have to get rid of one after buying it and training it up... and getting attached...

Hmmm. Scary thing is, the oil isn't that old. I only replaced the wheel bearings a few months ago. Lucky to be a couple of thousand klms.
But it is funny. Some was milk shake, some was normal. Most though, was milky.
But also, if you zoom in, the amount of precious metals suspended in that conglomerate. Pretty. :)

Before you buy a pup, check out your local animal shelters and pit bull rescues. Pit bulls are one of the most prevalent and euthanized breeds in shelters today. If we wouldn't have offered to foster Radar up there, he would have been dead over a month ago. The best part is you get to see their temperament as adults and most are already potty-trained and know basic obedience.

That's a good resource for checking out where breed bans are but don't believe the statistics they present as "facts". That website is run by a group of known pit bull haters and they like to skew their stats by combining all pit bull type breeds (American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Terriers, American Bulldogs) and any dog mixed with or looks like any of those breeds as one breed. It would be like if they combined all shepherd type dogs into one breed but for some reason they don't do that...

Yeah was thinking about hitting up the SPCA locally, cause I know they are always over full... even more so I'm sure after Christmas... Might look into picking a pup up from them once I find out what the rules are on the ban... I guess I could probably talk to them about that, as I would hope they would know what's up.. I would love to know what the pups temperament will be as an adult... Like I said the one that was around down in SC back in May, he was a full grown, still a bit of a pup, but was full grown, and he went through a few tests during the time we were there, and he did awesomely.. He would run up to you at full speed when you got out of a vehicle, and even with nice smelly food in hand, he wouldn't even jump up, he'd just greet you and then either follow you back to the house, or run in front of you never close enough to even trip you up... He went under my dad's house and managed to get hung up on some old insulation by his collar, e was whinning cause he was scared and wanted out, and after probably 30 minutes by the time I was able to get some underpinning moved out of the way and crawl under neath he was as calm as I can imagine him being able to be... I was able to get the collar off of him, and he tried to push past me to get out, but I told him calmly to hold on just second so I can get out of the way, only one of us is fitting through this hole at a time, and I'm already filling it... and he calmly waited for me to get out of the way... then he calmly walked out as I was backing out of the hole... was a great test of his temperament in my book... Really wish I had brought him home with me, as his owner is about useless, and isn't even around... the kids grandfather has the pup and didn't even come looking for it for the two weeks it stayed with us... he was like as far as I'm concerned I would have just told my grandson that it was picked up... he was like if you want him feel free to take him... but with not knowing for sure what the deal was ban wise, and not having a yard for him to run around in... nd after him having 36+ acres to run around at will.. figure it wouldn't be fair to him to be confined to a leash when outside..

We had a Christmas miracle, woke up to 3 inches of snow, got another three throughout the day, had a white Christmas after all! With three younger siblings we had all the gifts unwrapped by 5:45, then we went and shoveled the neighbors driveways and our own by 6:15. Felt good to do some service after recieving so much. :) drove the Jeep around in the snow, was a blast! The tires did awesome! Hung out with the family. And ended up needing to shovel the walks again in the evening. It was a wonderful day. :D

Ordered an 8 pack of assorted sized Quick Fist clamps... figure I can use them to mount my flash light, and fire extinguisher(s), and look into using them for mounting other accessories.

Also ordered a fairlead light bar mount.. Once I get it in, and measure out the mount points I'll order up a light bar for it.. Then I just have to figure out a way to make the mount and light bar theft proof, so I can hopefully keep it on the front of my Jeep, and not in someone else's possession..

Decided to take the jeep out one last time before i pull off the decorations. Just to get dinner a couple other things. But on the way home a jk unlimited comes up from behind and gets beside me on a four lane divided roadway. The girl in the passenger seat (pretty easy on the eyes) throws me a wave and they go on. But then slows to again get beside me and now she has her phone to try to take a pic. Not just calmly sitting there and snapping a pic. She has left her seat and is hanging halfway out the window. I'm talking up to her waist. Quite a sight, and no complaining here. :rolleye0012: Also woo-ing loudly and smiling big. This went on for a mile or two. Tried desperately to get my brother to get pics but it was too dark to come out. Oh how I wish my gopro had been mounted up.

Alright, well managed to pop a small piece of the black plastic backing of the NSS switch while using vice grips to remove one screw that didn't want to come out for some odd reason... luckily for me it was only on the outside of the switch casing, so it didn't really open up the actual switch to any water or anything, it's actually outside the sealing surface... so I applied some silicone to hold the piece back and to hopefully remedy any chance of any leaks from that spot... but either way pulled the NSS apart, and throughly cleaned the inside of it.. It was def gunked up quite a bit... it was actually far worse then the one I rebuilt off the 90, which I was very surprised to see.. the contacts were def stuck down in the little arm and the springs were about about useless... so I think it'll def work nicely now.. Will find out in the AM once the rain has seased and I can install it again... to make sure all the components of the switch are operating correctly as far as the starting in Park, not starting in gear, and the reverse lights work...

Installed the cleaned/rebuilt NSS, and did a full check of all portions of the NSS switch.. Everything worked in my original install with no adjustment to the switch, pretty happy about that, especially after I read that some people had to adjust theirs multiple times to get all parts working...

Thanks, the renix kits are made like that. The h.o. ones go to the passenger side. I haven't got to test drive it yet so I can't fully comment on the sound yet. At idle it wasn't very loud at all except for at warm up when it sounded like a shop vac in the cowl.

Finally was able to get her through inspection and get her registered... Now I can start working on moving the parts collection from the house to the XJ, and start getting some routine maintenance taken care of.. Also got the OHC I ordered from a good guy that enjoys hanging out and pulling parts from the JY as much as I used too, and would if this sorry state had more then 2 either of which were worth a crap... Luckily for me it was from a 97, so the harness should be a direct install.. Going to try and pull the headliner tomorrow if it isn't raining so I can work on cutting the needed holes, but also so it'll be ready to either re cover myself or have a professional do it.. figure I"ll mock up the OHC for a bit to make sure it all mounts up good, and works correctly, while I can easily get to all connections and wire runs..

(at least it all held out till my inspection was good, and it was registered in my name) So I get to the gym and I do a quick light check and my passenger rear blinker is out.. and I do the quick key trick and I get two codes.. one for the battery being disconnected within the last 50 starts.. no biggie... and one for the coolant temp sensor... so guess I'll take a look at it in the morning.. I think the wiring might be a little bit messed up for that sensor, due to getting a bit close to the exhaust manifold by the PO, so might see if I can't splice in new wire to bypass the junked up wiring and see if that will help, if not I'll throw in a new sensor anyways.. at least that way I know it is def good..

Swapped out the turn signal switch assembly tonight (in the rain)... was a bit of a PITA since I couldn't pull the lower steering column plastic due to the 96ish left over ignition switch they used in the early 97's... But still got her swapped out and brights now work correctly in all positions.. we'll see if the right turn signal goes crazy like it did on me last night over the next couple days of driving her.. Hoping the weather tomorrow will hold off as far as the rain till late evening or even early morning while I'm still sleeping, so I can hopefully work on splicing in good wiring to replace the jacked up wiring for the coolant temp sensor tomorrow, and will pick up a new temp sensor, sense I forgot to get it today when I got the turn signal switch.. see if I can't take care of this CEL again..

I know nothing about Josh's subconscious (thankfully, though I know not of what I speak) .

We took a rookie, and I mean a complete rookie, through the good stuff at Barnwell. They randomly rolled up and we hooked with the Fireman and got after it. Best day of wheelin I've had in a LONG TIME.:eek::D

Man don't worry about a CEL. You know your rig is solid. It's a Jeep.

It can run up this

Would love to run up that... wouldn't be a quick run up it, but would love to crawl her up that once the lift upgrade/revamp is complete and see how she performs... I'm not too worried about the CEL, other then the fact of I don't know this XJ well enough yet, to know if I need to worry about an overheat issue or not.. I've checked the coolant overflow the last couple times I've driven it to see if it has any in it or not...as the first time I took it to attempt inspection it did start to overheat and filled the overflow bottle.. But since I installed the fan shroud the couple times I've driven it, or even just let it sit at idle in the driveway to see if it would overheat it hasn't filled the bottle at all.. then again it is also a bit colder then it was when it "overheated".. so guess won't really know if this issue has been remedied until the warmer weather comes... so until then I'll just continue to work on other projects with her, and getting her up to the standard I'd like for her.. Will def plan on flushing the coolant system regardless as soon as I can one for her own well being as well as for the hope that once I can flush the heater core out a few times and back flush it a few times she'll provide me with at least some glimmer of heat for DD use, as I'd like to park my Ram for a little bit, especially if it snows...

On a good note... the CEL didn't show up till after the XJ passed inspection, and also the code that I got for the CEL was not for the O2 sensor harness that I had to splice in and replace due to the PO's stupidity... so I'm pretty happy about that.. goes I'll see how that all goes once I get her out in the rain driving, and especially in mud and water crossings..

Well took care of doing the splicing to replace the cracked up and melted wires for the coolant temp sensor, and picked up a new sensor @ AZ as well.. Splicing is completed and all covered back up with two layers of looming to protect the joints as well as the wires from heat, everything is secured again and looking good.. Went to replace the sensor, and having the bastard child of a 97 has struck again, and the sensor I got is for the newer style I guess and I have a different style.. so going to see if the 96 engine sitting in storage has the proper sensor, if so then I'll take this one back an pick up one for a 96 to install in my 97.. Unfortunately the wiring didn't fix my issue, so hopefully a new sensor will, if not.. then I'll be baffled and will be driving with a CEL for a while..

Went and pulled the drivers side door panel off again after fixing the window and switch panel and unhooked the lock linkage that I had hooked back up and then figured out why the PO had left it unhooked, cause you are not able to lock the drivers door using the power switch, the manual switch on the door as well as the key.. it was all jambed up for whatever reason, so I'm guessing if the weather is nice tomorrow or at least bearable I'll pull the door latch mechanism out of the door and see if I can't clean it up as I'm guessing that is why it's all jambed up...

Actually a couple days ago but a sad one. The time of year has come where all the Christmas cheer has to leave the jeep. Barring a wash to clean the windows it is all un-decorated and the containers wait to be opened again when the best time of the year returns. On the upside I can now get to things better and get back to working on the jeep. And there's plenty to do!

Ordered a new top, the current one has holes. Needs a new muffler, maybe a small suspension lift of some sort. Not sure i want to do another SOA conversion. Clean it up, fix the little things and sell to fund our other jeep upgrades/repairs.

New "HD" Crown leaves, new MOOG coils, and new bumpstops. Has little bit of a rake to it but I like that since I carry a lot of stuff when wheeling so should even out when loaded down. I could have also threw a 3/4 spacer in there but decided not to for now. From my understanding this is as close to "UpCountry" spec as you can get with available replacement parts.

Swapped out my coolant temp sensor since I found the proper one to order, and unfortunately not lucky enough for it to clear my CEL... even tried removing the positive cable for a few minutes... and still no luck.. so now I'm a bit baffled as to why I still have this CEL... Guess I'm going to have to pull all the looming and tape I put on it after I spliced the old burned wiring and replaced it with new wiring.. I'm going to try and look for something online that might show me what readings I should get at the cannon plug, so maybe I can check @ the connector without having to cut and pull all the hard work I did at cleaning up the engine bay when I did the splicing of the new wiring..

Although I'm half way wondering if it might not be possible, that if my thermostat is jacked and not opening correctly.. that maybe that is one why I have little to no heat... and then causing the coolant temp sensor to be reading wrong..

GAWD I love those Jeepers Creepers Throttle Bodies,
They're so clean and purdy....
Is that the 62mm one?

You know it!

Meant to post this up on Monday, but I got some new shiny for MY Jeep too....
Picked up a set of these LED lights for pretty cheap.
I may order another set for reverse lights... they are BRIGHT AS HECK!

Did you order these through Amazon?? Been thinking about picking up a set like these for my Detours A-pilar mounts.. Just trying to figure out if it is better to do a spot or flood up in that position...
