I got me some cheap summer rollers from a buddy for $75. They're 30x9.50 Trailcats, still got about 1/4" till the wear bars. Found some Grand Cherokee coils and 2 1/2" spacers on Craigslist for $50! Probably goin to the SY today to look for a wrecked s10, wish me luck.

Redid my bastard pack today. Took the Chevy S10 leaves out and put in Isuzu Rodeo leaves. 2" higher arch, but thinner leaves. Gives the same height but much softer. I may have hit it just right this time. Moved my lower shock mounts up 3" too.

Didn't think of using Rodeo leaves... How much lift did you get in the rear? Did you mix in the whole leaf pack with the xj pack? I'm definitely making a bastard pack for mine, so I'm curious what leaves you used for how much lift.

You get 3 or 4" depending on how you configure them with very good flex and better ride than the S10 leaves.

Well, I had my maps ready and my strategy all worked out. I was going to do some exploring in a place we call high lakes. I heard through the grape vine there was lots of snow up there so I thought I would go in the south end which is much lower and check it out that way. I got half way there and it started running at 210* going up hill so I stopped to fill that huge tank and see what was up. I only had one fan running. So I went back home to figure it out. Got the meter out and started chasing current and for the life of me I don't know what was up with it. I cooked a 50 amp relay with those fans of mine, so I am going to run two 30 amp relays now and do some other wiring differently. Couldn't buy stuff like that today. All the real auto parts stores were closed. So I bagged it.

got my LCA skids welded on, i've had them for ~5yrs, And found out that my track bar bolt that goes through the "frame" mount, had snapped on the nut side and the head was sticking out by about an inch :shocker: So got that fixed with a new bolt/lock washer and nut.

Then went to go wheeling the next day...and the rear main blew out, smoke everywhere. Went to Oreily's and put in Bars rear main stop leak, drove for a few more miles then decided to turn back and go home, i was halfway there to the park, Bridgeport, tx. So on my way back it stopped smoking, but i feel its more of a temporary fix, so i need to get that fixed, hopefully it wont be too expensive, or I'll end up doing it... man thats a pain to do...

Well that must be due to the heat coming off the catalytic converter. I'm assuming there wasn't a heat shield there. You should put one there. Get one of those cookie sheets that is double layered and has an air gap in between the two layers. I think it's about a 1/4 thick, maybe less.

That wont work. Trust me it wont work. No matter what you coat those cookie sheets in they rust, and it doesn't take long. Also mounting points are a real issue because it cannot touch the exhaust or the body so it is hard to get them mounted up in there so they stay in place. I have an old century 21 sign under mine and it relieves just enough heat to get by with, but still not as good as glue on heat shielding and that is what I am doing next.

Here is another idea that I was thinking of doing.

On mine it has bolts going through the heat shield screwed into the body. You can spray the cookie sheet with several layers of high heat paint, or when you go to the junk yard just get a heat shield.

I've looked at several XJ's in the yards and have never came across a heat shield. I have heard of them being on there, but I have never found one. Been thinking of using the pipe wrap to do up the muffler, doubt it'll hold up to the cat's temps though.

I think that my heat issue is do to a stuck or failing injector. Sometimes I can smell gas in the tail pipe.

oh ok, the flat(not shiny) aluminum bumpy looking stuff. Does that run the full length of the cat and muffler? and is it off of the body or right up on it? I might take a ride to the yard this weekend, because my trip last weekend was burning up Diane's feet and melted a plastic water bottle on the floor in the back...

Wow! They were smart to put it on the passenger's side! :smiley-laughing021:

I'm almost certain it does, but I'll have to check.

what a weekend well friday/sat heres what i did to the jeep in 2 days

1. replace drivers seat (getto lean fixed)
2. upper ball joint replaced
3. new u-joints in front axles
4. got a deal on a procomp lift from pickapart (front springs, shocks, lower control arms) so the buget lift went bye bye :pee:
5. replaced rear u joint
6. new pan gasket and rear main seal
7. fixed the a/c in the jeep
8. replaced the sterring column (tilt is fixed now) :driving:

Got it back from the shop, new front trans seal and bushing and rear main seal and oil pan gasket. fixed the rear bumper so it is no longer rubbing and pushing up the rear hatch. WD40'd the bolts on the left springs and shackle in prep for new leafs and shackles.

Well the jeep is now at home :shocker: last night Rene and I fixed the 4wd low, and mounted the rack and swapped a 32x11.5r15 onto a spare rim (my spare) And i'm happy to report the a/c still cools after recharging in a week ago. So its time to install my tunes / mini flowmaster ,and start my search for rear shock and build a basterd pack

Put in new rear speakers, removed the fiberglass headliner board, ran wiring underneath the trim along the ceiling and put the trim back up. Headliner fabric is falling down, so I figured go ahead and pull it out to redo it while I was working on the speakers. I kind of like the extra inch or two of headroom without the fiberglass board in. Might leave it out for the rest of the summer. From what I hear it's hard to keep warm in the wintertime without it in so I'll probably put it back up in a couple months. Don't like the thought of just putting more foam and fabric up so I might just paint it.

A few years ago I looked into getting one but was told that with the built in ridges on the roof it would be impossible to seal and would always leak. Now I'm thinking there's gotta be a way to make it work just need some hammerin and a little effort. Think I may be heading to the salvage yard to see if there is anything available.

Changed oil - I've always ran Valvoline Conventional but, after some brief research and getting some advise, today I tried VR1. Some people told me to run the VR1 for a while (a few hundred miles) then drain it and refill.

I just got home from errands and saw a fresh drip of coolant on the driveway... so it looks like I'll be spending the next few hours workin' on that.

Kicked a dent out of my fender and looked at my lack of turn signal lenses from getting pinned between two trees wheeling at 2am.

Apparently while heading for a tight trail dubbed "short wheelbase" we took a wrong turn which took me to a treestand. Didn't know we were on the wrong trail until my frontend got pinned in between two trees, looked up and saw the floor of a treestand.

Got turned around and on the right track and gave my heep a workout going up that trail and up carnage hill(no damage)

technically this was yesterday...but oh well, i was busy.

So I went over to a friends house to do some cutting and general look over. So what i found out is that all four of my ball joints...bad, but not too bad. So they go on the to do list...

Working on the end of the exhuast that got pinched by some rocks. It made it sound like i had a fart can on there :rotfl2: we just cut out the part that was bent up. so i have a bigger opening, but the cut makes the opening parallel to the ground, so no harm done.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v698/TeXJ2424/8a40ef3d.jpg

Then on to trimming: I kept getting in the the lower rear corner of my fender on one side...my friend pointed out that i hadnt gone back as far on that one side as i did on the other side. Problem solved.

^ video of it hitting the front, so that got whacked off too (insert whacking smiliy, i couldnt find it)

Then the front got lubed up with grease and checked balljoints and other joints up there, and then checked my track bar johnny joint/lubed that too.

afterwards, we got to play a bit.

Finally got a new drivers seat. It's from a 1997 Grand Cherokee so I had to take off the base. Snapped the head off of two of the bolts but it's on and stable! My stock seat has been falling apart for years, no more rocking chair while driving! The only thing I don't like is it leans back slightly farther than what I'm used to but it'll do.
