You flip the side thats just the tie rod to the knuckle, you cant flip the drag link side without major modification.

Cool, I wasn't sure how it worked out. If you are only flipping that side, what is the major benefit? The passenger side still hangs down.

Its for lifted jeeps mostly its not so much for clearance thats what high steer is for but thats also 600 bucks. its for better steering geometry reduces need for a drop pitman arm a little bit and helps with overall steering, alignment etc

Building a replacment guard on the inside of the jeep that covers the gas tank hoses since they like to trap water and are shit cuz jeep saw it necessary to just rivet that on. This one is probably overkill but with an XJ Ive learned that overkill can sometimes be underkill... This gets done ill post pics up and hopefully ill get the rear floor chasssis savered up so that i can finally get to finishing my interior thats been a wreck and a half for the past 2 months......

I used to have a pool ball shifter on my auto yes i said auto and the first time it wouldnt work right so i wacked it with a rubber mallet cuz there is a little catch nub on mine and it slid down and worked flawless. it was just difficult to shift at timesbeing that the button was now on top.

There are no cracks in the gutter on the sides its not the windshield or windows. The leak is draining into the lower rear quarters and out onto the floor of my xj so i think it local to the rear hatch area... ANY THOUGHTS?? This thing has been driving me nuts leaking lol. I noticed ot still leaking while I was cleaning it out so I did clean it out but that's it...

Installed some beefy shackles I got on C's List and RC bushings I got free on JeepForum; smallest I could find was 3/4" taller to replace the OEMs. Now she sits a little high in the rear (3/4"), I guess it's time for spacers in the front! Track bar was also very loose. Now the Jeep has tight steering, tracks as straight as my wife's 2010 Escape and doesn't sway in the corners. Unbelievable what worn bushings can do to all aspects of your ride.

Wednesday and Thursday i worked on making some a-pillar light mounts and painted them.

Friday i installed them with hella 500s, and wired em up. That took a while due to me soldering all wire-wire connections and there was a lot of them. Also installed some L.E.D.s in my front fenders, and put on some new windshield wipers.

Yesterday was kinda crazy. Started out at 8am, washed my xj, cleaned out the interior, got gear, headed to car show, got there really late, finally found a spot, walked around and looked at the cars, got some free oil (ten quarts total), got a free t-shirt, left the show, got some food, went to cruise held by car show on nearby street, drove that for a while, got warned by cop to turn off my a-pillar lights (i had my covers on to not blind anyone but still got warned, seriously, there was people frying their tires and blasting airhorns but my lights with covers on are a problem), got frustrated trying for an hour to find a place to park, watched some of the tire frying for about 2hours, left there, got excited and peeled out in some gravel, almost hit an approaching car while peeling out, got some pizza, went home, got some sleep.

$4500, V8, 95K (not sure if it's turned over), and the interior is in rough shape.

Wow today was an awesome day for the xj. Got the headliner pulled out and ready for replacing got most of my final touches done for welding inside it. And the big score this weekend I'm goin to be bed lining the exterior from the halfway mark down. Except for the doors they are going to be either replaced or modified when I weld I'm my tube rockers... It will be nice to have a semi clean xj again. :D

There's a switch in the liftgate that normally needs cleaned or adjusted. I gotta do the same thing eventually.

Imade a map holder today. I cut a piece of rubber 8"by 11" from a truck tire inner tube. you put the maps in it folded long way. I then placed it between the passenger seat and the 2 cup holders. The map holder keeps the maps from slipping down and going under the seat.

I've been playing around with ordering a kit from LMC. I think I priced everything out at around $100. They don't list anything for the Jeep, but an early 80's F150 uses the same headlight, so the harness should be compatible.

Started replacing my AAL stock springs with the Rusty's I bought a year ago. Discovered the rear shocks are to short and don't allow the rear to droop. Since I wanted to re-locate the shock mounts on the rear axle anyway, I started that project also. Now the new springs appear to be shorter than the old ones causing my shackle to ride almost straight vertical, soooo,,, now I'm doing a shackle re-location in addition to the other 2 projects. Oh, and I'm sure the back end will end up higher than the front so I guess I'll have to raise the front up some more next......geeeeese it never ends!!

That is what I have on my setup.. and am sitting at 7" of lift.. haven't had any vibes as of yet.. and that is after running it for over a year DD, and some minor offroading.

What have you done to your steering? I have a drop bracket on the track bar and a drop pitman arm, all set up for 4" lift. It's starting to look like I may be up to 6" with the latest mods.

I have an adjustable trac bar, and drop pitman arm. That is all I have done to the steering as of yet.. I have a few planned upgrades, most likely do the ZJ steering upgrade, until I can afford an even better steering replacement. I am also planning on swapping out the steering gear box as soon as I can find a good deal on a Durango gearbox or YJ gearbox..

If i can get them out and they arent broke bent or blueish then idk make me an offer its on a bad motor that the bottom end seized up on so they should be ok but will take a little inspection. The head cracked leaked coolant down to the bottom end and seized it up.

Uuugh, not good. So today i thought would do some maintenance and flush my cooling system. I got one of those flush kits and installed the tee in my heater hose. I followed the instructions, hooked up a water hose and all. Then cranked my xj to flush it. It started right up but ran rough and was ticking, then i noticed it was smoking and leaking water from an exhaust leak i have. So i shut it off knowing what these signs mean and checked the oil, it was milky.:bang: I unhooked the flush kit and water hose, and cranked it back up. It started out the same but after about a minute it returned to running normal, stopped leaking water in the exhaust, and the smoke slowed (was still smoking a little though). So i guess I'm going to change the oil and check the plugs and cylinders for water. Really don't want to deal with head/gasket as i just did with my bronco 2 a few months ago. Not quite sure why but gonna keep a close eye on this one. Its never done anything like this before, didn't show any warning lights, and doesn't overheat.

Alright, so today i did the compression test. I've only done one before so hopefully my results are correct. I did all the stuff your suppose to and turned it over three revolutions each time. So, the info i received wasn't quite what i expected and maybe you guys can help me figure it out. Ok, #1 cyl about 135lbs., #2-3-4-5 cylinders all had about 150 lbs., and for the kicker #6 cyl had 170-180 lbs. Now, my service manual says 120-150 lbs. Why is #6 higher and is that ok??? This is eating me up guys.

I'm not saying you didn't do it right but did you let each cylinders get the same number of "crank revolutions"? I have heard anywhere up to 8 revolutions per cylinder. It sounds like the test may have been a little inaccurate. However if you run it again and get the same results then the news probably isn't good. Doing the head gaskets not that bad and it could be done in a day. I'm doin one on my donor motor.

A leak down test can tell you more than a compression test. However having the proper equipment to perform this test is another thing. I agree about the number of revolutions used to test each cylinder. When i worked on outboard motors i would crank it till the needle quit climbing. No matter how long you crank on it , it will only produce a limited amount of pressure. Rule of thumb was no more than +\- 10% of highest number.

Yes to the first question. I had a piece of equipment built for leakdown testing. I don't know how to do it otherwise. You could rotate the engine until the valves are closed on each cylinder then pressurize that cylinder with air. If you have head gasket leak you will have air escaping from the cooling system or into a neighboring cylinder.

Thanks, and i'll look into the leak down test.

By the way, if i'm already getting these kind of pressures would that mean the head/gasket is good?

The problem with a compression test and a leaky head gasket is the cylinder can build good pressure during the test and still be leaking.

You can do a pressure test on the cooling system also. If the headgskt is leaking this MIGHT put water in the cylinder giving you a clue as to where the problem's at.

I changed the oil (needed to switch to 5w30 for winter anyways) and drained the radiator to fill it with coolant. The old oil was a tan color (not good). Then i cranked it to see how it was gonna do. So far so good, started right up, ran great, no water coming from the exhaust, great oil pressure, and was at 210° when i shut it off. The only odd thing was it was smoking some, but that stopped after about ten minutes. I'm thinking the flush put too much pressure on something and by unhooking the flush kit it stopped. And the smoke is left over water in the exhaust. At least that's what i'm hoping. Going to be watching this like a hawk for a long time.

my parents moved last weekend, their is another guy that came out, cant remember if you met him or not. He was 40ish and had a hat drove a dakota...ring a bell? He lives out in that area as well, he is the one that is thinking of doing something like that. Or we can go out by that creek, but it will more than likely have water in it now.
