i installed a new idle air control motor, now it doesnt jump to 2500rpm when i start it.

put some new vacuum lines on, and went to our scrap metal pile and dug out some 1/4in plate to build some shackle relocate boxes.

need to find some pipe to build my coil spring spacers. goin with 2 inches up front, wonder if i need to move the track bar, and if so how much. and if the control arms are gonna need to be changed for longer ones.

what do you guys think? hoping to get 30's under it as cheap as i can till i can afford a real lift. lol

Should be good on the track bar and control arms. The shocks might be a tad short but if your gonna be doing a "real" lift soon i wouldn't worry. Also keep in mind the stock bumpstops won't keep those 30s out of the fenders as well.

I practiced welding ... buddy of mine was able to fix a few issues with my crappy welding... found out the grounding clamp was crap so I gave it a whirl today after he worked it over for a temporary fix found out that arc welding with decent sticks and a good clamp really isnt very hard at all I mostly need to focus on my hand being more steady but other than that not TOO bad compared to my old crappy boogery welds

Ripped apart the dash again to try out some more L.E.D.s, still need to funnigle with them some more cause some problems arose. And, i didn't get to paint the gauge bezel (too humid).

Put on my new license plates. Didn't want to as i liked my number, but they made me.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but about a month ago, I picked up a set of 15x8 TJ 'Gambler' Rims. Afew days later I found a deal on a set of leather seats from a 98 XJ.

My seats were from a wrecked XJ and the driver's seat frame was cracked when I got it. Over the past 3 years, it's gotten worse.

Here's a teaser.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/421036_10151385354515131_886005130_23234280_362153 199_n.jpg

I also ordered an AC bypass pulley.

my 91 xj i had the gray interior and then I put some tan leather seats in it. It looked fine, the contrast was nice.

I got my 97 with a heavily worn tan interior that reeked of smoke. I replaced the carpet, seats, and center console from a rolled 2000. I then did the dash trim from my 98 parts XJ, some random interior parts have came from the JY. I have gray door panels and hatch panel to install, and I want to recover the headliner.

The driver's seat had a cracked seat frame (that I wasn't aware of), and it finally let go. So that's when I started looking for a set of leather buckets from a ZJ, and found the XJ seats.

So the leather is the 3rd set of seats that have been in that Jeep.

Installed a new P.S. pressure hose since the old one was leaking. Ended up having to break both ends off to get the old one off. It seems to have helped the slop in my steering. Although, once i got home i let it idle a couple minutes and it was overheating. It got to 220° when the fan cut on but still continued to climb so i shut it off. Sure do hope its not affiliated with that head gasket problem i had a few months ago. Gonna have to run it soon to see what's up, don't have time today.

OK so my buddy came over tonight and we knocked out ALL the tabs for the front axle
the one on the differential used a nickle rod... apparently it burns MUCH hotter than standard 6013 rods... we melted the bushing on my new johnny joint... oh well Currie has said I can order a new rebuild kit and since im now a "current customer" I can get a discount 10% either way I gotta get a new bushing
Anyhow heres the progress

we made another pass on the differential bracket and it turned out much nicer
also cleaned up some of the hack job I had to do on the coil brackets to accomodate the cast tubing but its all good now...
Already ordered the replacement bushings that I melted!
Tomorrow the whole axle gets cleaned up and coated with bed liner and rolled into place and the front springs bolted on!

Well, I haven't been able to participate here much lately because I got a promotion at work and I've been busy as heck. My apologies for that, fellas.

Anyways... Last thursday when I got to work, I went to pull my e-brake (I park on an incline in the mornings and like to keep stress off the tranny) and it pretty much few apart in my hands and I couldn't get it to disengage. The button flew out, the spring flew out, and the rod came out as well. I screwed with it as much as I could and finally got it to release, but it wouldn't engage again.

today, I took a look at it. I removed my console, and tried and tried to figure out what happened, but I've never messed with one of them before. I did end up making it work. It's not fixed, but I made it work.... backwards. Now I have to push the button to engage the brake, and pull up on the handle to release it without pushing the button. The button and rod are still unsecured. Oh well... it works... sort of.

The door seemed to line up right in the frame when I tried to close it. The latch on the B pillar was higher or lower than the '97 door, can't remember right now since I was a little hacked off about that. It was sitting all the way down on the hinges.

Did you price the DETOURS (detoursusa.com) Slimline? If that's too much look at the Tailbone. I really like it. You keep that stock look but get a spare tire carrier AND tow points.

http://detoursusa.com/images/feature-xjtailbone.jpg

I've been thinking of picking up a spare rear bumper for the XJ, and purchasing the Tailbone... I figure I can always pick up a full bumper later down the road and sell the Tailbone, but for now it will more than suffice for what I need, a beefy useful product @ a kick ass price!!

Took it to the LSJC election run at bridgeport. Think I aired down my driver front wheel to much, started leaking air a little from the bead right before we broke for lunch. But that was minor to the axle shaft and u joint breaks the first and then second trail leader suffered. not trusting my rim, looks a little to bent up to keep wheeling on it for the trails we were doing.

Got the Hmmwv seat in.. even notched the seat side brackets to allow it to lean forward so I can have access to the rear. The seat sits a little lower over all but looks like it should work great. I made the conversion mount to bolt the hmmwv seat to the stock slider frame out of 1/4" steel flat stock.

Will post pictures of the installed seat tomorrow.....or later tonight.

Made some white turn signal indicator lenses.

I was thinking pics of the paint jobs.

Sure, lets see.

I just painted the black part on the speaker grilles cause they were rusting.

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/xj-wheeler/2012-03-26212353.jpg

I'm interested to see how these are gonna work. I had tried an easier route to black out the bulbs but i'll just say it was a little hard to see the gauges through the smoke.:rolleye0012: I used high temp black paint on these.

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/xj-wheeler/2012-03-26205335.jpg

Now i didn't paint these but also can wait to see how its gonna look. I put blue leds in the turn signal indicators and the old lenses are green but since i went blue i figured white would show the blue well and go good with my white gauges. I made 'em out of a plastic cup.:D

http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h401/xj-wheeler/2012-03-26205221.jpg

I haven't finished the gauge bezel, its a waiting game till i get time when there's low humidity.

Ahh yes. My mistake. I believe it was from 97+ that they converted to a plastic tank and the fuel pump is in a different location so i think that you have to get the pump along with it but to my knowledge it is plug and play.

On the older Xj's don't the pump ground to the tank and to the body for it to work? Mine is that way I hit a rock moved it back 2inches and it quit running moved it back and fired up.

put the pan back on ... started work on the rear brake lines... gonna be a pain!

Saturday

Got up early, washed it, loaded it up, filled up the tank, headed for the truck show, got about 15 miles from home. Then i looked down and saw the temp gauge was pegged at 250°. Pulled off for a while to let it cool down. On cool down the upper radiator hose was collapsing.:bang: Turned around and headed for home. Turned on the heater but it still started to overheat. So i pulled in a station to let it cool again. While i was waiting i hotwired the auxiliary fan since it didn't seem to be coming on. Seemed to be fine then but i took it home. Got a new radiator cap, thermostat w/ gasket, upper radiator hose, and a Spectre air filter. Replaced the cap and filter. Much later i took it to get food but it still wanted to run 220° when the auxiliary fan (plugged it back in) would cut on and it would hold around there.

so last night I torn down the front axle to weld it up and let it cool down over night...

anyhow after I changed my shorts I went back to the jeep
was able to buy castle nuts for 3/4 inch bolts wooot so I put those into place and drilled out the bolts at the specified location and BAM 100% AWESOME STEERING NOW

So... not TO my Jeep, but BECAUSE of my Jeep: I did the U-joints Sunday, and today my wife spent 30 minutes pulling shrapnel out of my knee that broke off of my hammer, went through my jeans, and buried itsself in my knee deep enough that we couldn't see it. I thought it just nicked me. Guess not!

... and just in case anyone is interested or easily excited ...

XJ sport / 4dr dieso JK ... stock ... shocky lengths.

Finally found the coil spacers and considered playing with front suspension .... but decided to leave it a few weeks and see how the rear settles.

Got motivated enough to change the front shocks tho ....

..... and what should have been a good pair off the parts wreck turned out be 1 real good one and 1 totally buggered one ...... zilch pressure in it !! ....

I guess it must have hit hard in the prang

Soooo ... then I converted the JK shocks to XJ shocks and jammed them in .... rides very firm .... much more toyotaish and less yanktankish .... :D

Probably a common conversion ... press out sleeve/push in pin ..... but heres a pic anyway.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Vehicle%20Bits/Suspension/MntConv01b.jpg

Not much difference between the XJ & JK Fr shocks either ....

Compressed is 340mm & 358mm ........................................... Extended is 538mm & 558mm

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Vehicle%20Bits/Suspension/JKFrShock02c.jpg ...................... http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Vehicle%20Bits/Suspension/JKFrShock01c.jpg

...... So I might have to rethink front end ideas ... altho the wheel centre/wheelarch trim, measurement of 20" at the rear and 18.5" at the front doesn't look all that bad for the moment.
