tried, and failed, to remove the pulley from the old power steering pump. The removal tool I rented does not fit on the XJ pulley. Ended up having to buy a new pulley as well. It was only $13 so not too bad. Trying to get the pulley on the new pump is turning into a major pain. Going to have to take it home and put it in a vice to tighten it all the way down. Oh well maybe tomorrow. On a better note called Detours and ordered a set of a pillar light brackets!!! Woo Hoo!! Going to order a knuckle bone once my tax refund gets here!!!

Well today I finally went out and took the rear windshield wiper motor out of the parts XJ and put it in the DD. saved myself close to $100. Next I attempted to remove the A/C lines off of the parts XJ, which didn't work out. I got them unhooked from the compressor but can't get the lines broke loose from the block by the firewall. So I sprayed both the parts XJ fittings and the DD fittings to let them soak so I can hopefully break them loose.

For those wondering why I need new lines, when I purchases the jeep it wasn't running. Had a fire under the hood which burned most of the wiring and the a/c lines. It has been running great for a few months now so figured i would try to start fixing it up some.

Searched it to find out what was stolen when I got up at 6am. Of all the times I parked my jeep on the road at the gfs with the doors unlocked no problem. Parked it in the driveway and come out to the contents of my center console all around. My kershaw blade missing and my cupholder gone. (found out that was under my rear tire)

Around here people have been burning vehicles that had unlocked doors, they took out an entire house because the guy left the garage door open and the car was unlocked.

finally warmed up a little and was able to set the tension properly on the serpentine belt. But the battery died after sitting for a few days in the cold. Going to charge it up tonight and hopefully that will be all. Didn't want to drive it home with the power steering pump broken so It's been parked at my parents, (Thankfully they don't mind!) But I want it home hate just having an hour or two after work to take care of Red. Plus there's a little more blockage of the wind in my driveway.

They're very adjustable, i can just about turn them off. I can also switch from blue to green (don't think i would need the green:D). It does make the needles and odometer invisible though, that's why i wired it up so i could still use the stockers too.

Finally got the battery charged up and started Red up took a little bit for the new power steering pump to work the fluid through. seems to be doing well but there is a scraping noise coming from somewhere and I can't pinpoint it. I think I'm finally going to have to have a pro look at it. At least I have a good garage close by that is very reliable and honest.

Let's see; where to start....I put new ends in the rusty's upper control arms. Then put the 39lb injectors and fuel rail on the intake. Then removed and shortened the head stud that was stopping waterpump impeller. Test fitted the 37.5 ag tires(need more clearance; they'll scrub if I jump over about 6' high). Next is to finish rewiring the mega-squirt and msd to relocate them.

Took off the Yakima roof rack and put the spare back in the factory spot. Couldn't find the factory spare tire holder. I think I might have thrown it away. So had to use a long carriage bolt and an eye bolt with a piece of plastic and a wing nut to hold it in place. I don't remember what I had gotten these things for but they were in the garage on the workbench. I think I might have to many projects going on at once. I havn't decided whether to put the factory rack back on or just leave it as is. I'm planning on getting a light bar to hook the lights back up. But for now it's looks kinda naked. Was going to post some pics but the photobucket app requires an upgrade and my iPhone can't use the latest software.

"Fixed":D:D my failed struts on the rear door.

I used a piece of aluminum tubing, split lengthwise and slid over the strut.

Here's how it works.

Slide it into position to hold the tailgate up
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj298/picsofnate/8e267ec8.jpg

Slide it up over the fatter part of the cylinder to shut the tailgate.

I ordered a RobertShaw thermostat from Quadratec that has been on back order for several weeks now. So after seeing a P1281 CEL code I decided it was just time to put something in there. I ordered a STANT 195 degree thermostat from Amazon.com (2 actually) and installed it tonight.

After tightening up the bottom bolt on my high dollar high flow thermostat housing I heard a "crack!" It broke, and had a nice crack from one side to the other. So I remove it, and found my original stock thermostat housing. This time I put a little RTV to hold the thermostat in place. I think this is what caused the other one to crack. I think the thermostat slid down.

So I cleaned up the old housing, then moved the temp sensor over to it etc...

Got it installed started her up and monitored the coolant level and coolant temp. Adding water to the radiator as necessary.

After having the transmission worked on it was rare that the coolant temp needle got further than a 1/4 the way up the gauge. Now it rises to about the point between the first hash before 210, and 210.

We'll see how it does tomorrow.

Well it was actually yesterday, but I was far too tired to get online after working all night and then working on my XJ for a few hours right after work.. I finally changed my oil and my front brakes out.. First off, realized I went almost 5k over my oil change.. and secondly.. I went well over that on the needed brake change.. It seemed to be stopping just fine, all the way up to getting to the shop to swap out the brakes.. but the pads were almost down to the metal of the plate behind the actual pad.. well the outer ones were anyways.. So it was def. time to swap them brakes out..

I disconnected my front drive shaft in preparation for a new front axle, about to pull out a stock D30 to put in a high pinion D30 with chromoly 30 spline shafts 4.10 gears and a ARB air locker :D. Also took off my E-brake set up because I had to cut the lines due to my lift an they would have snapped when I flexed any ways.

Put on a new fuel pump. She's always needed one for long as I've had her "bout 2 years". I'd always have to hit the starter twice to get her going and she seemed to be a bit weak for a 4.0 on the highway. Recently she got to where I'd have to hit the starter 3 or 4 sometimes 5 times to get enough pressure to run.

Night and day. Now she hits right on the 1st crank and charges up hill at highway speeds in OD no prob. Awesome.

I refilled the winsheld wiper fluid using a quart bottle i keep in the engine compartment. I think it was one of my better ideas since keeping it there insures I have some if needed(without having to stop somewhere and pay extra) and it's warm by being in the engine compartment. The stuff I use is the good stuff with some antifreeze added. I keep it by the brake booster.

Well, I cried while cutting up the Borla stainless header. I need a much bigger collector than 2 1/4". I cut it just before the 2 into one section and gonna fit(by fit i mean pound with a hammer) some 3 1/2" pipe over that and add an o2 sensor bung. That's what I've got too. I just don't like the .223 round. My buddy is shooting the 5.56 and says he likes it. But I just can't make myself "trade up" to an AR so I can shoot a weaker, more expensive round. Pigs get big in TX! If I move from the SKS it's prolly mini 30 for me. I'm happy with it, other than the mag release and clip system on the gun. if I had to drop a clip and load another with a pig coming at me I'd be in trouble! Course thats what the .45 is for...

Upgraded my remote start to transmit a confirmation signal. I needed to get a replacement for the remote and found the confirmation transmitter with the key fob remote was the same price as just a sending unit. Figured might as well get the upgrade since Omega doesn't make my version anymore. Took a while to find someplace that sells it but I finally did. Easy to do just unplug the old receiver and plug in the new one. Also checked the status of an order and my nut strips are out to be delivered by FedEx today so I can put on my rear hitch.

Nice... When I was at the previous owner's house looking at my Jeep, there were several things that weren't working... headlights, blinkers, etc. He said he had replaced a fuse earlier because the O2 sensor fuse blew. Ha. He was looking in the manual at the picture of the under-hood fuse box and had things toooootally screwed up. I re-did the entire fuse box for him, then bought it from him! Should've charged a mechanic fee discount off the price!:poke:

So I went to adjust my emergency brake and it still wouldn't work. I took off my drums and WOW... I had ZERO meat on my shoes. (I bought the jeep a year ago... who knows when the previous owner did the brakes) I had my wife come out and pump the brake and e-brake to make sure that everything was moving correctly, and all was well. Went to Advance Auto, because the Auto Zone and O'Reilly's by my house are HORRIBLE, and spent $100 on Shoes, 10 qts of oil, 2 filters (for mine and my wife's jeeps) a can of brake cleaner, and a 36mm axle nut socket so I can replace my wheel bearings when they arrive in the mail.

Get home and decided to do my brakes first. Guess what? The shoes that are supposed to be an EXACT FIT, weren't. :bang: Back up to the store. I brought one of my shoes for comparison. Got the right ones and was charged an extra $5 for the cores that I didn't return yet... I'll have to straighten that out tomorrow. :yack:

Get the driver's side done, move to the passenger side. The clip that connects to my self adjuster decided to break. So now I have 1 self adjusting drum brake and 1 manual adjusting drum brake. :smiley-angry021:

Bled and adjusted. Everything works, e-brake included. I can get my inspection now.

I surrender for the night :sign0181:. EARL changes will happen tomorrow.

Changed the radiator in a WJ. Had to remove bumper cover, grille, assembly that holds both head lights (just moved them out of way for clearance) and assembly that has hood latch (moved it out of way also). Could Jeep have made it any harder to get to a second gen Grand radiator? Spent way too much time trying to figure out how the whole puzzle came apart; Haynes manual useless ... confusing and actually wrong on several points.
I also changed plugs, cap/rotor and plug wires on the XJ, in the rain. The rain made me work extra fast. Think I finished that in less than half an hour.

I tried using Hayes manuals way back when I started working on my car, either they didn't go into enough detail or what they showed on the page didn't match what I was looking at on my vehicle.

Thank God for the Internet, well and Jeep forums. Working on my Jeep has been much easier than anything I've ever had to work on before.

Love it. I've been wanting to do the same thing to mine... change all lights to blue. My CD player can have blue or green lights and I have it on green to match, but I think blue looks better.

Yeah i have been trying to get it like that and since my xj is blue that's the color i like. I did the glow gauges, those can be either blue or green but i just leave them on blue, and my radio glows blue as well. Did the shifter lights. Now i just gotta put blue L.E.D.s in the dash switch lights and a white L.E.D. in the a/c control panel (i think blue wouldn't come out very well since it has some red in it).

I think at that point the only lights on it that won't be L.E.D.s will be warning lights, rear turn signals, underhood, reverse lights, and headlights.

Most of it is just as simple as changing out a bulb like normal. The dash bulbs just take a phillips screwdriver to get to them. The shifted bulbs are super easy, just pull up on the indicator bezels. They full right up. My ways of doing the dome lights and front turn signals are a bit excessive as i have these "bright ideas" that tend to take extra time and effort.

Me? If so, not really. Being that they are so far away from my normal line of sight at the road it doesn't bother me. Plus i don't keep them turned all the way up because of my glow gauges.

XJWheeler, were your rotors drilled through? They look great!

They are slotted and dimpled. Drilled through holes can weaken the rotor (as I've heard anyways). And thanks, took me a while to decide what brand to go with. After reading a lot of reviews and asking around i choose ebc. So far, great quality. I still have to break them in (special compound on the pads), so i have gotten to really test them out.

Worthless?!?!?! I don't know about yours but mine has lots of door dings in it. Barely noticeable in the pliable plastic, but I think it would be more noticeable in the sheet metal.

Since I've installed the Detours slyders, I've been considering removing mine. I know I'm going to get grief now about how damage adds character to a Jeep, but I think that's just something guys say when they have damage. :P

Yes! But you know I was a little disappointed. My wife's Wrangler (parked next to the XJ in the garage) door doesn't even come close to the slyders. :bang:

I bet there are other vehicles out there that will be the same way. Still I'm looking forward to seeing a ding in the slyder, because I know their door will be trashed if I notice anything. lol

I think the XJ looks cleaner without the door side moldings... That is why I took mine off... Hell only dings I've gotten since then is one in the lower portion of the rear door, and somehow someone managed to put a few nice dings in the back quarter by the gas door and behind it, but not hit my ant.... The single row seems to be keeping it below 210 but the two row I replaced was doing better. It kept the temp below the 210 mark by at least one mark on the gauge. I prefer the two row but it is impossible to find someone to repair aluminum radiators down here. Other places might be better.
