i just reinstalled my rocker arms and 2 of them have some play in them. i can move them side to side a bit. the rest of them are tight and wont move. is this bad?

How much can you move them side to side? If they just wiggle a little its probably because the valves that belong to those rockers are probably closed so there's no pressure on them compared to the others which have pressure from the pushrods on them. I'm not 100% familiar with rockers on the 4.0L but if they have a torque spec, just torque them to that spec and if they move a little fine. I don't think you have to adjust them with feeler guages.

also i can spin the rods but 3 won't move.
Do you have the service manual? Is there a torque spec for the rocker arm nut or do you have to set them up with feeler guages? if there is a torque spec (which I think there is), torque them down and they should be fine

just finished doing my 1999 4.0 and there is no adjustment possible. torque spec for retaining bolts is all there is! tighten em up and rock and roll
