Watch Craigs list. 99 is the best year followed by 98, then 96&7 then 2000 and 01. Go backwards from 95 then.

It's a jeep. They all got issues. High miles, oil leaks, rust. Unless you pony up 40K for a new one. Not sure what help you're seeking. But you could find a XJ down in FL & drive it home. Don't be afraid of a jeep with 160k miles. Assuming maintanence has been done. You'll get a cool 300K miles out of like many of us. Rust sucks. Cut it out and weld in new. What issue have u encountered?
yeah. ive been watching craigslist. and seen a lot of rusted ones cuz New york loves their salt, and ones that need more work then i wanna put in to. and yes granted they will have problems but i dont wanna drop an extra 3k in to something to fix it.. im just asking what year would be the best to get
For what kinda use? An 00' or 01' would be perfectly fine for daily driving. The front low pinion axle is a bit of a downer for folks that are concerned about clearance. Even the older ones are fine. I drove an old V6 model and thought it was a dog. But I prefer the inline 6. After 95' I think they got a aesthetic face lift. But for the most part they're all wicked solid.
Maybe look outa state for a rust free model
i want it to use it for both daily and off roading.
I would say keep an eye on CL, but also local Jeep club forums.. Also look at CL from surrounding states that are within a bit of driving distance.. make a fun day trip out of it when you go to look at it or pick it up...

Caleb, do yourself a favor. Buy one from Florida and get a nice one and enjoy the drive home
