Ten years ago the upper Texas gulf coast was threatened by a category 5 hurricane. That in itself is significant, however this hurricane "Rita" did so just two weeks after massive television coverage of hurricane Katrina that decimated New Orleans, LA.

Our neighbors attempted to evacuate but made it 5 miles in 12 hours. Fortunately Rita turned to the East and dropped in strength before making landfall near the Texas/Louisiana border.

I decided then that I needed to fundamentally change my 1998 Jeep Cherokee into something that didn't need roads, as roads were clearly useless when mass panic strikes. Less concerned for myself but more for my family.

Hurricane Rita is responsible not only for the build up of my Jeep, but also for this site, and the podcast.
