Paul came down again today to supervise me since he is still on no duty. We pulled the Isuzu up to the front of the shop

And began striping the engine and getting it ready to pull. It is ready now to pull all the way in and lift the motor out. Will do that later.

Oh yeah. We plan to beef up the little 2.8. We would like to hit about 150 hp or better. In a rig less than 2,000# that would be a kick.

I got our donor engine out today. A wee little motor. You cannot even see it for the stuff hanging on the front.

But I can see some things happening to HUM WEE in the future. That is a good old GM power steering pump on there as well as an AC compressor that is gonna start pumping air I think. TBI so it will do well on inclines

Thanks Dillon. But the fun is just about to really begin with the Mite. Since the Volvo motor is almost ready to give it up permanently, we are going to remotor it. We are shooting for close to 1 horsepower for every 10 pounds of vehicle. That is a fast vehicle. It will make it much more fun. I have been putting the finishing touches on the top so it fits right. Good hot weather project eh? In August after I get back from Fordyce Creek we will pull it in for the motor swap and finish up the details.

The plan is to keep the stock tranny. It is unique and so is the transfer case. Yes, a cage is in order but not a problem yet. These little guys are rated at speed on a 43° side hill. And believe me, they will. They corner like a sports car, but soak up the bumps. A fun little vehicle. They just need more horsepower.

The RPMs will be about the same. Right now it cruises on the Freeway about 60 - 65 mph. However, after the engine is done, we have plans for an overdrive adaptation. It had one when we got it, but it didn't work well. The tcase has the same bolt pattern on the cover yours has on the PTO cover on the back of the tranny. We just need to do some machine work on the gear and output/input drive and we will have a 25% overdrive. That will give it a cruising speed of a good 75 mph. Good enough even around here.

Did a little work on the Mite. Our efforts to get the rare arctic top right are finally paying off. I made some adjustments to the back and got the door hardware on and this is the result.

We have to let the canvas shrink up a little, but it will work out well I think. Certainly not as air tight, if I can use that term, as a civilian top, but ready for the foul weather now.
