not sure on the first part, but yes the harness just lays in the rain gutter.

Just a quick mention, the time for photos is before you disassemble.
Then you can see how the parts fit before. yes, i am so guilty of that.
now i have an old camera that stays in the tool box!
too bad they don't make disk film any more... at least I have my phone!

They screw into the back corners of the roof. It can be a small pain to get the wiring and window washer tube through them.
