Just thought I'd share some info for anyone wanting to change out their oil pan gasket and rear main seals. Specifically, for year 2000 XJ (since that's what mine is.)

According to most parts places, they list a rear main seal that is a 2 piece and one of the pieces has tabs built into the part that goes into the main bearing cap.

Like this one Felpro BS40612...it will probably work for most XJs


but ^^^ that rear main seal wouldn't fit because the bearing cap was not milled out to fit those "tabs". We didn't know this until breaking the engine down. Then use some Google Fu to find the proper part number from Mopar and then find the aftermarket replacement.

The one that does fit our 2000 was Felpro BS40183
and it looks like the one pictured below...
