    Default 5w-30?

So I put 6 qts of 5w-30 in my XJ on this last oil change since it was free. Question is, will it do any damage? My oil pressure is high when the oil is cold (since it is 5w) but when it warms up it runs normal oil pressure. One positive thing is that it takes a bit longer for my XJ to warm up now (probably since it has to heat up the oil).

I typically run that, in the winter as its a thinner viscocity, not thicker. The lower the number means it can handle cooler temps, and shouldn't make the pressure higher but lower. But the "30" is the number for once the engine is up to temp, that's why it hasn't changed when its warm. You should be fine to run that oil, as long as your pressure stays high enough with the hot temps you have over there.

Odd that it has higher pressure when cold vs hot. Oh well. Thanks for the info.

    5w-30 won't hurt at all. I run 5w-30 or 10w-30.

    No worries

Did you switch from synthetic 10w30 to conventional 5w30? That could explain the increase in pressure when cold since conventional is a bit thicker than synthetic even though you went down in weight.

I also run 10-30 in the summer and 5-30 in the winter. Not synthetic though. I've got too many oil leaks as it is.
