    Default Upgraded steering questions

Ok, so I've heard tons of good things about the v8 Durango box, but what I want to know about is the chevy S-10 steering box. I've heard of a few people using it over the Durango box and say that it's better.

    Has anybody done this?
    Is it direct bolt-on?
    What years S-10? 4 cyl or v6?

Also, heard the WJ power steering pump is an upgrade, so what modifications are needed for that if any? v6 or v8?

Will be going to the junk yard next Saturday 5/24 so any help would be appreciated.

The Jeep steering box is made by Saginaw. They come in right and left hand and a light and heavy duty version. Some have three bolt mountings and some four. A four bolt will fit on a three bolt frame. The heavy duty version is in the V8 Durango, which you knew already. A TJ box will also work. The way you tell is by measuring across the end. The larger box will be 4" across. The smaller one will be 3.5"

I've heard that the Durango box has some sort of brass in it where the S10 doesn't, does this make the S10 box "better"?

I looked up the pump pressures and output on the TJ/WJ and all the pumps put out 1400 psi and same volume. Save your money there. If you want more pressure out of the pump there are aftermarket pumps that will do that

Awesome info, thanks Steve. I have a weird "grinding/vibration" from my steering that I'm not sure where it's coming from, so my thought was to replace box and pump. I can just swap an xj pump then.

I wonder if there is another bolt-on junk yard pump that is better than stock.

While we are on steering boxes ...

    TJ versus XJ ???

Differences in lock to lock, wheel rotations or something ??
I hate watching simplicity and reliability being ruined by bureaucracy and technology.

I hear the YJ ones have a fixed 3:1 ratio and a 4th mounting hole... but havent heard any differences of the TJ to the XJ boxes.
