Put in 235-4 cam. Needing to know, do I have to change the factory timing?

You should use the factory timing unless you want to change your torque curve

ok just wondering because I can't seen to get it to start I've tried moving the dist. back and forth and it will run for about 5 seconds and die don't know what I did wrong I'm thinking it might be a tooth off of the cam and crank suggestions

Check your connections. Crank sensor can give you that problem and sometimes the cam sensor too

Just an update. still not starting but a few seconds. I've tried checking fire, fuel codes & timing. This is everything I've done to it since it last ran. The rods were knocking so I took it apart and rebuilt the whole the thing. Put a comp cam 235 is the only performance mod I did. When I put the engine back into the jeep. I had the flex plate on it & messed up 3 teeth. Chilton says the crank sensor reads the teeth on the flex plate. Just wondering if anyone else thinks it might be the flex plate? Don't want to pull the transmission for no reason.

I think you should indeed correct that. It would throw the computer off
