Yeah, several professions don't need tipping like people who cut hair. I paid for the haircut, they get a decent wage (comparatively to food servers), and I don't like tipping for it, but I do because my wife makes me . Or masseuses (the normal kind, not the kind Carves likes), Or any regular place that puts a "Tip Jar" out. They're getting their normal pay, so I don't like it unless they go way above and beyond.

Food servers are paid on average 2.13/hr. I've been there and done that. On top of that, servers have to tip out to the bar tenders whether their tables ordered drinks or not, they have to tip out to bus boys, dishwashers, silverware rollers, and sometimes even to the hostesses. I'm sorry, but all those people get paid more hourly than the servers do for the exact job they perform, and the servers are getting their tips based on making customers happy. Why should they have to pay those people a percentage of their hard earned tips??? Restaurants are pretty much the definition of socialism. You have to pay a huge chunk of what you earn to other people that get paid more per hour and didn't provide excellent customer service. Wrong, wrong wrong. I hated being a waiter and refuse to ever do it again. That being said, I don't worry a great deal about calculating 15% or 25% when I tip servers. I tip based on how well they did. Is my cup refilled in a timely manner, are they attentive, etc. I don't like the waiters that I only see when I order and when I pay, and they usually get low tips. Agreed that To-Go people don't need to be tipped a large amount. However, they are usually paid 2.13/hr too, but all they are doing is punching in your order and giving it to you when you get there instead of attending your table for an hour. I usually tip about 2 on those.

I also used to work in a shop and got tips from time to time for fixing flats for free, checking air in tires, checking oil levels, etc. I also would try to say "no thanks, it's my pleasure" but most wouldn't take no for an answer. That's fine and dandy and I don't mind tipping those people either. Especially if I have a rather difficult vehicle to work on. People like Mr. Metlik53 absolutely deserve tips for what they do. C'mon, a free flat repair? Throw a little extra to the guy/gal that took the time to help ya out while not expecting anything in return

Now, back to the original topic of this post LOL! I really like Discount Tire's policy and their customer service. If you have a bad experience at a DT location, it's totally the fault of the employee(s) and not the company. The company is one of the few that believes in providing excellent customer service.
