    Default No 4lo

I took my xj to the beach yesterday and I ran into a problem. I have the np242 t-case. I can get it to shift into part time and full time fine but it won't shift into 4lo. I haven't touched it yet. Want to get yalls opinions before I even start

Sounds like the tcase shifting linkage might be out of adjustment.

I could use some details. So is it just grinding, not going in at all or what

I to get it to lock in by putting the trans in neutral and then shifting it into 4lo. Put the trans in drive and reverse and all it would do is rev up. The shifter locked in 4lo on my center console. Then I tried while leaving the trans in drive and shifting into 4lo. The transfer case started grinding when it went into part-time and 4lo but it still wouldnt move while in 4lo

Sounds like you just need to adjust your linkage. But while you are doing this, make sure the little bushings and such are OK. You will have to get underneath and look up into the transmission tunnel. You will see two rods. One will have a bolt on it. This bolt allows you to make adjustments by loosening it. Try using some channel locks to get the tcase into low range manually while the tranny is in neutral and one rear wheel jacked up slightly after loosening the adjustment bolt. Then put the selector in the low position and then retighten the bolt.

Gonna try that tomorrow. Why does the back tire need to be jacked up?

So you can turn the drive shaft a little while you are trying to lever it into gear. It will relieve all the pressure on the drive train
