Is it dangerous?
I just watched several youtube vids about column repairs on these trucks. Looks doable. :shug: I've had a non-tilt column apart on a '74 J20 and it looks a little familiar.

89 with tilt steering. The steering is catching slightly when turning either way from center. I'm afraid it will catch hard enough to stop the wheel from steering. From the sound of it, the...
If I go hunting a tranny control unit, what years am I looking for? Again, this one is an '89, 6 banger.
Oh, I forgot: the previous own said the guy he bought it from put a '92 engine/tranny/x-fer...
Using the cig lighter socket wall as my ground I tested these solenoid wires from the TCU connector:
C14: 13.2 ohms
C15: 12.9 ohms
C16: 12.9 ohms
You mean checking C14 wire out of the TCU? Or ...?
Well too late now, I'm not removing the pan again w/o due cause. I suppose I could try tripping it from the C14 wire at the TCU?
Rechecked them right at the solenoid when i had the pan off. TC solenoid had slightly less ohms than the other two; it was 9.8 and the others were 11.2. I would have tested them with battery voltage...
The torque converter still not locking up.
I did the following:
1. Changed tranny fluid and filter.
2. Replaced ground (negative) and positive battery cables with new 1GA cables with soldered on...
Still no joy. Looking into re-replacing the TPS. Anyone have a favorite brand to look for? Advance Auto counter-man claims BWD brand that they sell is the exact part I would get if I bought one from...
1989 XJ AW4.
I replaced a bad TPS with a Duralast brand (Autozone). Now the AW4 won't shift into TC lockup. So, I then re-placed the Duralast with the bad old one. Still no lockup. So put back the...
There's been a whine like that in the front diff of my '74 Jeep J20 for 625k mi. and the D44 hasn't failed yet, it's run synthetic lube since it first started whining.
Hey, I'm considering this same swap. My '89 has the 35C and I can get what I believe is a 8.25 from a 2000 for $50. Will I have to replace my nearly new e-brake cables or will they fit the 8.25, too?
The connectors to the switch are clean and bright. So you are suggesting the switch is bad which I just got, should I be taking the switch back? (I have never liked power locks/windows/seats.)
This...
I guess I am misunderstanding something: If the driver-side (master switch) lock-switch is able to actuate the passenger door lock motor but not its own, how is that a result of bad contacts in the...
So far only checked driver's door lock, its only getting ~1.5 - 2.8 volts to the lock motor. I checked the motor itself with 12v and it works fine. The rear door's locks I haven't gotten to yet, or...
This turned out to be a dirty TPS connector. It has been six months without a single hiccup.
1989 Jeep Cherokee Laredo - most of the power option are non-functional thanks to the previous owner.
In this thread I am seeking help with power locks.
Alright -- none of the power locks...
This all sounds too much like a poor ground problem somewhere.
Driven three days now without any problems at all, no hiccups. Three days ago it turned cold here and I was thinking maybe something was breaking down in the hot, under-hood temperatures.
When I...
The first day I brought the truck home I tried to get some codes using the check engine light. Weren't none 'cuz there weren't no light. :D
Of the research I've done on the web since: Renix has no...
Today I went to town for another set of wheel bearings, and on the way back the truck exhibited the behavior again. This time I was ready for it and watched to see if the tach was effected. It was...
Thank you. I'm on a laptop. On this unit the 'keep me logged in' is always magically checked. :)
I logged in, wrote a my reply and when I tried to post it the system logged me out and I lost all my reply!
I checked the fluid level and there was none on the stick! I always check it and did so before my road trip on friday and it was okay, it's always okay…. So now I add ½ quart and look at the...
I think the shuddering is just a natural reaction of the bump-thump, like and after shock, so-to-speak. It feels like the tranny is jumping in and out of gear, real instantaneously like.
I bought...
