tire and wheel question

I have a '91 cherokee with a 3.5" lift.
And I have a set of bfg tires 285/75/16 a/t in great shape.
The wheels i found are 16x7 with 4" backspace on them will they rub or
not?
I would love your help.I live in Ohio and love to trail ride when I can find the trails so mud riding is not my thing.
the man at Quadratec said the wheel isn't wide enough! I don't dout his word or is he looking at a catalog?

I called my friend who works for a tire store. He said its too wide. You would need a 16x8 at least.

I did a quick calculation. That is an 11" wide tire. It will perform much better on the highway with an 8" rim.
