Hybrid xj
Here's the project I'm working on now. It's a 96 grand am gt on a xj unibody... I know your thinking WHY? well I'm wanting to build another buggy and I'm wanting to do it out of an older car like a gremlin, spirit or ax4 but there pretty expensive so you can say this is a test run for fun out of a 200 dollar car and a xj that was headed for the crusher.
This jeep, abandoned and no title

cut down to just enough to drive it in and out of garage

1996 grand am gt from a friend, blown motor cheap..

tore it down, braced it everywhere and cut out unibody

Pulled the xj in and started trimming on both body and chassis as I lowered it down till they fit together.

almost there...

This is were it'll sit I think, and it's were everything like firewall and radiator support work the best...

Re: Hybrid xj
Hahaha, this is awesome! I guarantee you will be the only one in the country with a Grand Am GT XJ! I look forward to seeing it progress.

Re: Hybrid xj
Unibody swaps are been going on for years in Europe were they don't have frame cars. So they started sticking old volvo's and BMW's on late model chassis so they can have modern brakes, steering and drivetrain. I started looking into it years ago and finally got around to giving it a try... Alot of panel making and welding in my future.

Re: Hybrid xj
But damn funny and just think of the looks you will acquire out on the trail!
Oh yeah, Fun times ahead for that build!

Re: Hybrid xj
Got a little more done to the project I've been calling Jigsaw.. I have to whittle on the front fenders and bumper cover tomorrow then I should be able to drive it in and out again... It's off to a buddy's garage for a cage next. I wanna be able to lift the body back up and weld the top of the cage before I make it permanent....

Re: Hybrid xj
Yep, I'm no engineer so a cage should be enough to bring structural integrity back to the project. I finally have it running and out of the garage for awhile, sometimes you just need a break from looking at a project...LOL
