Well, you could find an '87+ model which should already have the 4.0l. An older 2.8l v6 model would probably be a fair bit of work as its different wiring, transmission, transfer case, driveshaft, fuel delivery system, etc. Unless you could adapt the engine to the original transmission but i wouldn't know much about that.

On the surface, it seems like it would be easy. However you will have to change just about everything. Even the hood and front radiator supports etc. I would suggest that if you have a 2.8L in it that the best mod is the 3.4L camaro V6 which will be a bolt in. There is a few other details, but this is the most cost effective and easiest swap. It makes 160 horsepower, which will get you in the ball park of the 4.oL

If you can get 1560 HP out of a 3.4L V6 then I'm leaving work right now to go scour the PnPs until I find one. :p
