Wiring harness / dielectric grease
I went to the pick'n pull and pulled a nice dash (not like the rat nest I have now) and a dash wiring harness.
~dash is gray vs. burgundy... but I'm redoing most of the interior anyway
question is, when I pulled the harness from the donor, the firewall connection was full of black gue.
I'm assuming that was some sort of dielectric grease.
should I pick up a tub of dielectric and lube it up when I install ... or go dry?
Re: wiring harness / dielectric grease
Grease it with the dielectric stuff it will last over 10 years and make a solid connection plus it somewhat waterproofs it too.
Re: Wiring harness / dielectric grease
I clean every connection I come across with contact cleaner. Then use dielectric grease.
Re: Wiring harness / dielectric grease
I picked up a tube of dielectric...
and a set of dental picks and micro files too clean it all up.
my guess on the black gue is that it is an old type of silicone that sealed the connection.
...
pain in the *-%( pulling theolddash and wiring.
took 30 min at the junk yard.
almost 3 hours just to pull mine!
guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow
Re: Wiring harness / dielectric grease
got the new dash in...
...then realized I was missing 1 main plug...
that was on top behind the dash!:bang:
Done! = worth it.
gotta finish up the cluster and stereo. but all seems to
:bacondance:
then start picking up gray interior to match...
