i seem to remember reading somewhere ( should've saved it ) that there was a budget build for a dana 30 diff guard. has anyone heard of anything like that?

i am starting a new project xj 1992, 4.5 stroker, all budget stuff. have the engine built & ready to go in, got the Taurus fan ready, 2 batteries installed, alt out of zj, found a 9" rear with 4:10's , picked a d30 with matching gears, picking up next week the zj tie rod. lift is going to be around 6 or so inches with 4.3l's leaf build, ford coils with hockey pucks, got the chevy brake lines & going to do the zj disc conversion.

i know it sounds wild but i am trying to build a decent dual purpose rig without buying after market stuff, there are so many home brews out there i just want to see how well she holds up.

I believe what you may have seen before was using another stock cover from a D30. Cut it down, leaving room for the filler. Bolt it on top of the actual cover using some spacers, or a few washers. Looked pretty good and certainly cheap.

Or you could just weld up one like this I made for my 60. This is before grinding the welds and putting in a fill plug but I built it in my garage with tools most folks have.

Google D30 buttface... they are pretty easy to make you just need to weld and cut steel!
