Hey everybody, new to site and hopefully will continue to stay active here. I found this place just be searching mods and lifts and wallah!

Anyways I'm the owner of a 2001 cherokee sport, All stock other than some APT tires. I'm currently working on a rear hood lift, cut and sanded the 3/4" tube now I just need to borrow a drill as mine crapped out. I'm looking to do more mods in the near future and better advice on DIY work pretty much. I have no experience with working on cars whatsoever but it looks like this is my intro to it :D

Will do soon, I just got my hood spacing done about 15 minutes ago, I didn't do a step by step picture book, but from now on I will not only to help others but so I can remember it all too.

So here is a picture of the jeep fresh after a nice bath. Stock as can be, except for the rear hood lift.

Here are some close ups of the hood lift.
(If I should post these somewhere more appropiate let me know ex:build thread/mods)

So here is a pic of the 3/4" aluminum tubing I picked up at OSH for 15 bucks, I just used a pencil to mark length, and used a sawzall hand saw, I then used a piece of sandpaper laying around to file the edges of the tubing, Marked the tubing again with a marker and drilled away. After that all I needed to do was mount it. I used 8 1.25x40mm hex bolts. Two cigarettes later it was finished.

Here you can see the front of the hood where there is a little bit of spacing many people complain about not liking this mod for that reason, but it's very minimal to me. Also if you've ever had problems with the drivers side of the hood not locking down correctly, this will fix it :D

Been thinking about doing this to my hood, as it will help with the heat issues... never thought of using the tubing like that... and now I know the proper bolts to use too.. Looks good, and the gap up front is minimal, and might even allow a little bit more cool air in..

The tubing comes in 4ft, only need 2 3" pieces. but that cost about 18 bucks after taxes.

The bolts are 89 cents a piece.

The 3 hours of work total for an effective and custom hood=priceless.

sheesh .... looks almost virginal ....

Silver, rescue green and RED ... best XJ colours ... :D

Just as some info for ya ....

The little, extra gap at the front - that fixed your hood catch ... :D

Will Vent ....
... Not too much tho - which is a good thing - as theres hardly enough, front to rear flow, in an XJ anyways.

Up to about 20mph you'll have underhood air .. being vented / fanforced, out the back ...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Tools%20and%20Test/BonnetSpacing21a.jpg

And over about 20mph you start to get - unwanted induction air being jammed in from the windscreen - messing with an already poor engine bay airflow and the fanclutch sensor.
( all relevant to actual speeds of course ;) )

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Tools%20and%20Test/BonnetSpacing21b.jpg

Much better to fit a bigger firewall seal between the hinges ....

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Tools%20and%20Test/BonnetSpacing20a.jpg

.... and have the venting happening from the corners ... at all speeds .. ;)

It runs way cooler right now without the engine.. LOL Heck, get it back up and running and you can run with no hood at all... how much cooler you want it to run?? LOL!!
