So I bought my jeep in October it was completely stock, and since then I've installed a 3" Rough Country lift, with new shocks but my jeep doesn't have any bump stops, and didn't have any when I bought it...there is literally nothing there!

I've heard that it is bad for the shocks if you don't have bump stops but the remaining old bump stops are still stuck up there...and it seems impossible to get them out. What is the best way on getting them out and how bad would it be if I just left them the way they are?

Thanks!

You still have bump stops, they are also called FENDERS! :rotfl2:

Seriously though I would replace the bump stops. Yeah I can see how it would be bad on the shocks. Hitting the end of travel on the shock either way can be bad I guess.

I had one break and fall off. I saw it laying inside my coil. I purchased some DayStar extended bump stops. I didn't like that they were just shoved up inside that metal opening, so I drilled some holes through the metal and into the extended bump stops and put some screws in there to hold them in place.

As the suspension flexes the coil comes in contact with the bump stop, so I knew it would just be a matter of time before the coil knocked the bump stop out.

I have a post on here somewhere....

Found it! :link: (http://www.xjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=4274)

Whats the easiest way to get the remaining bump stops out cause they are wedged up there and there's only a little bit left of each one...

Had the same problem on my mom zj, just get a flathead screwdriver and dig the rest out.

Also, this reminds me i need to put some in mine. Like tony i found them laying down in the spring.

My bumpstops are gone in the front too. I have wheeled and flexed mine quite a bit and it hasnt damaged a shock yet. And as tony said...I do use my fenders as my bumpstops.

Yep, fenders work pretty good. I finally built me some for the back but the front still doesn't have any. I just cut more fender out, no more problem.

You mean that's not what the fenders are for?

i found alot of threads about lift and bumpstops but thats irrelevant. seems to go off of tire size and shock length.
wish there was llike text book aanswer for "31" tires needs #?" of bumpstop.

il find out and post back

one must cut off and remove leaf springs.
weld a spring perch to the axle tube. then a perch for the coil to stay on on the frame/body.
then something needs welded up or bolted on for linkage(leaf springs did both)
3 link or 4 link etc.

I made a bolt in X-member and triangulated 4 link, build thread is here
