Wow this is weird. So jeep has been running just fine. No issues what so ever. Went to drive it a few minutes ago and it won't start. Turns over good and all like normal but doesn't seem like is even trying to start. I was reaching down around the air box today by the front left corner. Other than that, that's all I've done. I changed out the plastic piece on the driver side fender that two wires plug Into. I know it wot start without that and swapped it out with another XJ I have in the back but it didn't change any. Any thoughts??

There is some wiring to the crankshaft position sensor down in that area. It is located on the bell housing under the intake manifold. Did you disturb those wires, or are they damaged and grounding out?

Don't think I was near any of that. I was right behind the headlight. I will be working on it tomorrow to hopefully get it fixed as I start back to school Wednesday.

Many a Jeep Cherokee has been purchased for very little, CPS is replaced by the new owner and it's is driven from where it sat for months. Always good to have a spare CPS.

Well luckily I have a whole XJ sitting in the backyard. Only difference is it's a year older (89) and it has a 5 speed and 2wd versus the auto and 4x4 that mine has. I'll try swapping them out tomorrow and see what it does

With a long ratchet extension and a little patience it's about a 30 minute job.

Since you already have a spare one, can't hurt to give it a try... I know I want to pick up a few from the JY next time I'm out!!

Well it's fixed. I Pulled the air filter and found oil all over on the end by te vacuum lines. I also unplugged the 3 prong/green plug in on the firewall right above the valve cover and it started up after that. So guess a loose connection maybe. Gonna grab a new filter later today.

Yeah the end of the air filter on the firewall side was caked in oil.
