99 XJ 4.0. Ran great. Parked overnite and no start the next day. No fire. I replaced the Crank position sensor, as that happened a few years ago, not it.
Replaced the PCM or pick up plate, not it. Replaced cap and rotor as they needed it anyway, not it. (See a pattern here) Pulled the coil, took it to parts house and ohmed it out against a new one. Same readings so I put it back on. Now what.
Thanks

Sorry. it spins fine. Gets fuel. No spark. I used the inline spark indicators to look for spark.

Voltage to the coil? Spark at the coil? Replace the coil?

I put an ohm meter to it and the readings are the same as a new one. How do I check for voltage to the coil. There is no spark coming out.

I put the ignition switch in the on position. I put a volt meter to the two prong plug that goes into the back of the coil. No voltage. I put the meter to the three prong plug that connects to the distributor and get 5.7 volts to the left and right prong. Do you know where the power to the distributor comes from?

This may sound stupid, but have you tried to start it in neutral?

Nothing is stupid, especially at this point. Yes, I did. Just tried again anyway. I am open for anything that will make this thing go. I need to get to the water. Redfish are calling my name.

I was thinking that the coil would be on or off, you know with the key, but maybe it pulses the voltage to the coil as well. Have you checked the relay? I think there's a relay for the coil isn't there?

Don't see one specific. I did swap around the ASD(?) relay. I was thinking there would be constant to the coil, ark out. The 5.6 to the coil seems odd.

HOODY-HOO - It was the coil after all. Voltage to the connector plug only comes when turning engine over. Not constant. That is what threw me. Metered it with engine cranking, 11 volts, so, power in, no power out, I changed it and it worked.
Thanx to all that responded.

Cool. I had a no start issue that was just a bad battery clamp. Charged the battery and swapped the clamps and it starts stronger than ever.

Glad both of our issues were fairly easy/cheap to fix.
