well after a long awaited (by me) time the durango started up today ... still got a handful of items to address as over the year of it being moved around from place to place I've lost a handful of items soooo on to the JY for the remainder parts
A/C compressor mounting bolts
A/C Bracket
Drivers side exhaust manifold bolts
Harmonic balance pulley bolts
a single vacuum hose... I know right!
and a valve cover PCV valve
not bad all things considered!
I have a video but its taking a while to load up so I will post it later

I am curious though I had to keep the foot on the gas to keep her lit
im not sure but it MIGHT be due to me forgetting (and now remembering) that there are three plugs to the throttle body that were unplugged for when I pulled the fuel rail to test pressure from the injectors

now I DO have a better one loading but it took me a few minutes to get the engine primed... I think I might have flooded it but trust me there is a longer one with it idling!
but we have to wait for photobucket to load it
oh for those who don't know how to use photobucket just click on the picture and it will bring you to the video

Dont sound like its running on all 8. I'd check the timing and also make sure all the injectors are opening. Does have a hell of a starter and battery though lol

Well I'm glad you are seeing some success. I wonder what the compression is cylinder to cylinder.

NOW shes really alive!!! I went to get the remaining bolts and nuts today and after going to two junkyards I was able to scrounge up all the missing fasteners...
I got home and went to town wrenching like a mad man!
what all I installed today
alternator
A/C compressor
belt
radiator hoses
heatercore hoses
coil wire
transmission cooler
air box
intake plenum upper
washer reservoir
coolant overflow
front crossmember support
hood latch
now all thats left is to install the collector end of the exhaust bolts... I was crawling under this evening to install and the wife called and said I need to be ready to go to dinner for the daughters birthday in 30 minutes... for the unmarried folks that means..." your done for the night, put all the tools down and come wash up"
when we got home from dinner I was JUST about to crawl under to put those on and realized
A. I was not wearing wrenching clothes
B. its pretty cold out and Id have to locate my wrenching pullover jacket
C. I really didnt wanna have to shower again for a third time today before bed

So I decided to move all the crap out of the way and see if the beast was ready to roll on her own... Fired her up put her in drive and she was ready to go with a little lunge as if to say DAMN IT'S BEEN A WHILE!!!! so I drove her out of the garage and down the driveway and down the street to the other end of the drive and pulled her into place in the "staging" area is what I like to call it.
Tomorrow I anticipate finishing her up and getting it on the Insurance so I can go get registration and state inspection !!! YAYAYAYAAAAY

Sooooo I got her working finally, found out the torque specs on the rocker bolts ... tightened em down a bit more and shes running GREAT now!!!
so I took her for a bath for the first time in over a year!!!
http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo167/seivey/IMG071.jpg

Now I move on to the transmission!... might have to switch out a OD solenoid then again perhaps Lucas Oils can give me a hand!

Great news. What happened to the transmission? I thought you just had problems with no oil then the engine failed.

The overdrive gear dont work, but I think it was like that before the engine blew up.

new news.... the &^%#@&!^ Melling oil pump we JUST installed... FAILED AND TOOK THE CRANKSHAFT AND ROD BEARINGS WITH IT!
Ive emailed Melling to see what the procedure for a warranty claim is

my original email with mellings response

Sir:
Return the alleged defective pump to place of purchase and file your parts and labor claim with them.
Your O' Reilly store will forward the claim to their DC and it will be sent on to us from them.

Thank You

Subject: Melling pump failed, 5.9 dodge motor inop.
Message: I recently purchased a melling oil pump from a local
Orielly Auto parts to be a part of my motor rebuild, last thursday I finished the motor and was able to drive it for a few days, today the following sunday I was driving to church and I had a "check gages"
light come on.
I pulled over to the side of the road to check under the hood for any odd sounds at the time nothing so I turned the motor off and waitied a few minutes and turned the motor back over and found I had pressure again of which only lasted about three more miles til I was at my destination however when I arrived it was clattering very loud once I exited the vehicle.
I would like to know what Mellings procedure for warranty claims is as now my newly rebuilt motor has been destroyed and nearly 1000 dollars in parts are wasted not to mention the hours of labor involved

guess we shall see!

You have to be kidding. Have you been put on suicide watch?!?!?! Is this a common issue with this brand oil pump? I can't believe that any company would take a chance selling an oil pump that they have to be liable for. :wow:

I haven't seen anyone complaining about these pumps before.. so I don't know if it was just a fluke, or bad batch or what.. I've spent plenty of time researching building and upgrading the Mopar 5.2 and 5.9L engines... and have heard high regard on these pumps for hard/heavy use... I'm sorry to hear that all of that work you just got done with is all for not.. I hope that they will hook you up with some money to have these items taken care of, or at least take some off the huge hit that you have just taken due to their pump!

I wonder if one of the original pistons skirts broke and the oil pump couldn't handle the debris.

Oh I understand, I asked somewhere (here or facebook) if you were on suicide watch. This isn't easy work, and it's very time consuming, so when things like this happen just after you have a glimmer of hope, well yeah, it's easy to see why people just drive them for 2 years, and trade them in.

she ran great for two and a half days... I paid for inspection and registration totaling about 100$... that 100$ could have finished the jeep...
