I was driving down the highway today and looked into my side mirror to change lanes. My door handles caught my eye. So I started thinking. Paddle latches would look pretty awesome if they would work. Anyone done it before or have any ideas?

Well I did a little more surfing and found these, so I guess I answered my own question.

You can make anything work with enough creativity. Those latches dont look like they would be too hard to make work. I would use the first ones you posted though

Yep what Jim said if you want to go with paddle latches. In the custom car world we like to hide the latch (smooth look). I've made doors open with flush buttons, electric openers (remote opening) with push springs to actually start the door opening and many other styles. really the limit is how much effort you want to put into that. I've thought about hidden latches for da lizard and may do that eventually.

I shaved everything on my vw jetta, a few years back. It is a "smooth" look. I just thought that the paddle latches would be pretty simple, look good, be different and totally functional. When I shaved the Jetta I lived in a house, but now I live in an apartment. So any mods I do have to be able to be cleaned up and but away over night.

Sounds like a good plan, would keep with the rugged look of the rig.
Shaving is a great look and can even be a sort of antitheft device.

To shave the engine bay, door handles, trunk and rub strips it took me 5 months. With all the welding sanding and filling. But it did look sweet when I was done.
