Got a Wrangler? Maybe a friend with one? http://www.WranglerTalk.com/

Hey there everyone,

Nathan here, 28 years old. For no reason in particular I fell in love with Mopar about 6 years ago, and purchased my first SRT4, a 2005 Red.

3 weeks after owning the car, I was driving home from upstate NY and fell asleep.

I somehow walked away from that without a scratch, so I bought another SRT4, a 2005 Stone White.

The white one gets babied like no other, so I decided I needed another one as a daily driver. I picked this 2005 Black SRT4 up about a year ago.

Since then, my fiance has sold her Nissan Sentra and drives the black SRT4, so this left me needing another daily. I figured two neons was enough, I couldn't justify 3 lol. I've had my eye on the xj for a while, and after some looking I found this one in VA.

She has 117k miles on her, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2dr. She was a 1 owner car prior to me buying her. I am still learning a lot about xjs. I love car / truck forums, and they have basically taught me everything I know in terms of working on my own vehicles. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all in the coming months :) I'm sure I will have many questions.

So far I've replaced both wheel joints up front, as they were rusted to hell. Other than that she passed MD state inspection without a hitch! Are there any other things you guys / gals recommend I take a look at, considering she's a used Jeep and I don't have any service records?

Welcome to xjtalk

One other thing to look at under the front is the track bar bushing. Have the girl friend saw the steering wheel back and forth while you look at where it attaches to the axle. You should see little or no movement there.

Welcome to the best XJ forum on the web. :D

That is a nice looking 2 door.

What kind of transmission do you have? I can get 20-23 mpg from my 5 speed 2 door 4x4 if I am easy with it.

If you have not already done so I would recommend you take a look at the floor boards from underneath and check for rust. Also check the door hinges, on the 2 door especially they seem to pull away from the door pillar due to the extra weight of the 2 door doors.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I will check out the bushing. I noticed while I was doing the wheel joints, they looked sort of crusty, but so did everything under there lol. I will have the Mrs crank on it for me so I can get a better feel for it.

The tranmission is an auto :( I was disappointed, but when I was ready to buy I could not find a manual anywhere in the state of Maryland. I'll check the floorboards as well, thanks.

@ bluedragon436 - Nice, not too far from me. Do you ever go mudding? This is my first Jeep and I'm looking to try some mild offroading with someone who can show me how not do to it like a moron.

@1ATONY - Thank ya kindly

Used to live in that area, but the southern side of DC. Lived in Prince Georges County near Oxen Hill. That was many years and many vehicles ago. Back in the 60s.
Well you have made a fine choice for your first XJ. Looks great.

I play in the mud as I can find some good places to do so.. The only thing that stinks about the area.. is there really isn't too many place to go offroading.. well not legally anyways, without having to drive a distance to get there..
