If yo click yes, will it print? Does it print if you click no?

it wont print for either choice... but if I click yes it shows a status bar that it IS printing... I know that the computer works cause if I try to print something from a jump drive off my computer it works... I guess I need to just keep save it to a jump drive but still I should be able to print from ANY saved location right?!

I'm not a windose expert, but yes you should be able to do it. Have you tried uninstalling your printer divers and reinstalling and setting up again?

I havent done that YET but this happened the very first time I installed the printer, my wife bought it at a work garage sale... (the work sold all the "old" stuff) anyhow its a good printer but I had to search for the drivers online as there was nothing with it! Ill try tomorrow to un-re install the drivers... man I wish just ONCE a computer could actually perform ALL its programmed abilities!

Im a computer klutz ....

But check that the printer driver selected as the primary and/or, option ... on your system ... is compatible with the "new" printer.

Generally tho its a matter of installing a "correct" driver for the printer.

would probably help if you gave more specs....
what computer is it, operating system etc...
What is the printer...
your address and bank account information etc...

the rest I would say it looks like a misconfigured driver thing

I am more concerned about your .prn file.... why would it do that when you obviously had an original .pdf file.
Is your printer connected via the USB port ? is it the right USB ? have you tried to connect via the parralel port to see what is going on ?

.prn is a print file extension.

As I said in chat last night, reinstall the printer.

If the same thing happens then you need to look at the printer properties. I don't like the check box that mentions PDF. PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file, not a printer. PRN is not a PDF extension though, so I see several confusing things here.

Remove the printer. Download the latest printer drivers. Connect the printer back to your computer. Reinstall, then update to the latest printer drivers.

The other thing you can do, and this will save you a bunch of time, is to do a google search for something like "winxp print keeps going to prn and not printer"

Type in what ever operating system you are using. I just used winxp as an example.

I was curious so I did that search I suggested...

Somewhere in the 1st Print dialogue box from the HP OfficeJet, Print to file is checked. UN-check it, and the rest of the process will be "normal".

Seems like perhaps the Print to file is set as a default in your OfficeJet printer. Go to Printers and Faxes, right-clk the OfficeJet printer (default?), select Properties, and under the Ports tab, make sure the □ FILE: Print to file is UN-checked, that the listed OfficeJet printer is set (I'm guessing) to use ■ USB: Virtual printer port for USB by "checking" it, click Apply, then OK.

I think a wise man long ago said... Knowing the answers isn't nearly as important as knowing the questions to ask. :D
