I think the plugs on the back of the alt. are different. May be able to splice them onto your wiring though.

Why don't you use the ZJ 136 A off the 4.0 engine. My understanding is it is a direct bolt in.

I was under the impression that either the bracket or the alternator needed some grinding to fit the 136 amp. But really is 12 amps really worth all the effort?

I guess it is up to the user. The 136 is a popular upgrade and I don't really know anything about the later 125 amp

I can see bumping up from the 90A that the older XJ's had. It just doesn't seem like much of a bump and alot of work for roughly 10 amps.

Alternators like most things wear and tend to stop putting out their rated amounts as they get old. Just replacing it with an OEM may be the ticket.

4.3XJ i just thought it would be a bolt on item since the new xjs have them that and i like keeping things xj

I don't know one way or another really. But I lean towards the idea that it may not. Lots of changes made after 01

Well if it is different, and im not 100% sure it is, this pic shows it. The one on the right is what you have, which has the two posts where the wires bolt on. The one on the rights has a plug instead. So all you would have to do is splice a plug onto your two wires.

Disclamer: Not my pic

I tried for the 136A this year when my old original 90 crapped. It didn't fit just bolt on, so I ended up with a new 90, it fried so the alternator shop did a rewind on it and I have a good 100 in a 90 case for now. I still want the 136 and will get one after I get a spare bracket to do the grinding on to get it to fit.

I put one of the 136s on my Renix Jeep. I had to get the newer brackets and grind it all down. I also had to put in an external voltage regulator. I got it all to work. The install of the 136 is easy. I would go that route if you can and just change the connections out.

may i ask why you went with the 136 on the renix? why didnt you just go to a stronger gm alternator with little to no grinding & no exteranl wiring to change & you could've went up to 190amp then?
