Sure thing Wayne. Real common here. It is a Ford 8.8". The hot one to use here is the one in a Ford Exlorer. 4.10 gears and 30 spline axles with disc brakes.

It is a good route to go. It is comparable to the D44, just not a direct bolt in. Lots of aftermarket support too.

My thoughts are, its a great axle. Lots of them come with limited slips in them, that work great. Easy to find with 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10 gears. Most also have disc brakes. If you can find one cheap and get the brackets welded on I say go for it. But keep in mind it is about 1.5" narrower so you'll either need spacers for the rear or different offset wheels

Wayne, they are just a little narrower than the 35 in this country. Check the width. You may need a small spacer added in to complete the swap. But still a good deal.

Hey I always wondered is it 1.5 inches over all or 1.5 inches to each side?

Had I kept the Jeep that was my next move, very plentyfull here and parts are everywhere. In fact there are several companys that make a swap kit just for that app. , If you can find one there , go for it !!!

Ford 8.8 not only is better like ever else says but! Neat little trick me a buddy an a shop owner my buddy is very good friends with found... most axle housings can be bored out slighty to accommodate bigger axle shafts hehe :) a 8.8 can be made pretty beasty. For example, we did a 35, it now has complete 44 chomy guts with a arb air locker an he runs 37's but has wheeled with 40's an he wheels it hard. we did a 44 into a 60. An its all for way less then it would cost to just buy a new 44 or 60. So being as the 8.8 is 30 or 31 spline... i believe if it comes out of a full sized truck its a 31, you could easily build it into or close to the equivalent of a 60 an wont ever have to worry about snapping some thing. This is what I'm doing to my XJ just got a 8.8 housing just gotta build it.
