Yes the higher the spline count the stronger (larger diameter) the axle. If you cryo the axles you have, you will increase their strength about 40%. which may be cheeper than replacing the axles with the higher spline count axles.

I think the new side gears. Also, if you have an 8.25 that has the threaded collar, you need to reset the preload. If you have an axle with shims, just put the shims back in the way they came out.
