Well still car searching for a car for my girlfriend and we found a 2001 white Cherokee sport 4 door, auto, 4x4.... wondering what you guys were getting realistic for gas mileage city/highway while it was stock? Statistics say it gets 14 for city, 15 combined, and 18 highway. What have you guys gotten with yours? Thanks for the help in advance!

I have a 95 2 dr sport and get about 16 stop and go traffic and up to 20 highway but then I have the aw15 five speed standard tranny with 3.73 gears.
If you are looking for really high mpg, jeeps aren't the way to go but if you are looking for fun to drive and going places others can't or shouldn't, this is the vehicle for you.

what ^ said. i would say those MPG's are about right. but once she wants to lift it and get some bigger tires.. they will be less.. and i say WHEN... not IF.. lol

Haha yea I know, Shes not gonna do a lift or anyhting until shes done with school come next year. But I was also figuring with the jeep having a 20 gal. tank compared to her monte that has a 17 gal. tank and with the mpg of the jeep itll be average to slightly more than what she gets with her car anyways, even tho her cars supposed to get between 17 and 28 its no where near that. Hope this works out and we'll have another jeep to add to the family. :)

id say that the 14/15/18 in its stock form might even be a little low, Ive seen folks score 20 highway and 17 city on a stock XJ but those folks are religious about maintenance like oil changes and air filters and fuel filters... the whole 9 yards

Yeah, if this works out and she gets it I'm gonna get a tune up done and probably do a cold air intake done and see if that helps a little bit. Maybe a TB spacer.

i have an 01 limited on 33s, and i get 14.5 for highway and city. and i floor it most of the time, but as soon i see the next light turn red i coast, and coast down any hill i go down. actually helps me save a little gas.

and when my dad drives my xj it gets 16mpgs... go figure haha.

your can easily get 18 or so with a proper tune up, and being easy on the right pedal always helps lol.

Haha, yeah. I know about that right pedal issue. But my jeeps horrible on gas either way I drive it. It gets between 8-10 MPG normally.

haha but seriously, jeeps are not for gas saving.

if you want a gas savor, go get a prius.

Pretty much. Thats why I dont complain about it really. My choice to lift it and drive it, not anyone elses. So just gotta deal with it. But its okay, in a few months Ill have my other gass guzzler done and driveable.

amen man! i love my jeep, and gas guzzling is just the small price we pay to be able to make it through anything offroad!

Right! I drive mine as much as i can, since I have a company truck i save on alot of gas, i maybe only get about 4-5 miles a day in my jeep. unless making a special trip somewhere. or just cruising around

I have a 2001 sport and I get 24mpg on the hwy and 18 in town. real numbers. I am religous with my maintance and keeping my pressures where they need to be. That helps alot.

Its a 2000 SS.

She must have an extremely heavy right foot or something wrong with the car if she isn't getting 17/28 in the monte carlo. I had an '01 Grand Prix GTP, basically same car but super charged. I got 22 mpg mixed and easily got 30 mpg hwy. I was pretty liberal with the skinny pedal.

Gas Guzzling? geeze I've had vehicles that got 1.5 MPG now that's a guzzler. Of course they also had BHP in the 500+ arena.

She is sometimes but the car sucks gas. Not as bad as it was, but I think one of the issues is that I haven't been able to put the new plugs and wires in yet( i think they are the originals). But I'm not sure. We got it used and have had stupid problems with it since she got it. But come summer time shes getting something new. HOPEFULLY!
