I'm trying to decide if I should lift the 1999 Jeep XJ. We just bought 30x9.5x15 BFG AT tires so I'm not putting more on it anytime soon.

I'd like to see how it would look before wasting my time and money putting the lift on.

Anyone has some pictures? I'm guessing 31's would be close enough too!

This was mine with 31" I'm not sure how much lift I have exactly since the flares are cut, but I think its close to 3 1/2". Previous owner said it was 4".

Weve done several lifts in the 4.5 range and had the customer not go up in tire size for whatever reason . In all reality it just gives you tire more room to articulate, however with 30's you would be somewhat limited to types of terrian.

Speaking from personal experience, I would say don't do it. 30's look like skateboard wheels with 4.5" of lift. Do you have drop brackets for the control arms? If not, the jeep will ride very harsh and your wife will not like that ;) not to mention you will reduce the downward travel of your suspension about 4.5" by having the control arms point at the ground. Sure you will have more ground clearance but in my book it's not worth it if it limits your suspension travel. If you have drop brackets, go for it but use bigger tires. If you don't have drop brackets don't lift it until you do. If I were you I would buy another set of those bushwacker flares like you have on your jeep and put those on you're wife's jeep with 32's without any lift. It will ride and handle like stock and unless you get really knobby tires the noise should be minimal. Also you won't have to deal with steering angles, driveshaft angles, vibrations, trac bars, brake hoses, etc etc etc. Just my opinion. Here's pics of my '96 from a while back with 4.5" rusty's lift and 30's. Looks gay I think.

Tony, if you are not going any higher than 31" just go with 3". That size tire will look good on a 3" lift and better with 31s. Smaller tires always look better with flares on.

Yeah Steve I agree with you but here's the problem...

With the 4.5" I would have new leaves.

You should do 4.5" of lift.. I know someone selling some used, but still in decent shape 32"s... LOL..

JK... hey.. are you only looking at the RC kits?? Or open to other options as well as far as lift companies?? I mean I was looking at Rusty's 3" kit (http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rustys&Product_Code=RK-300SP-XJ&Category_Code=sus_xj_kit), it is with full springs, not AAL, as well as Rocky-road (http://www.rocky-road.com/xjbudget.html).. I was just meaning as far as options if you wanted to give it a nice look with the 30's you all ready got.. but not go too high for the wife's rig!!

I don't buy anything from Rusty's. Read too much bad press and the shipping is usually more than the product! ;)

No I know Rough Country plus I know their customer service. No sense trying something else as I see it.

Doh! I meant 31's not 32's. :banghead:
You can later throw a 1" budget boost on it if you want a little more clearance.

I've heard about that rough ride before, I haven't experienced it myself. I mean it doesn't ride like a luxary car, but come on it's a 4x4. :D
