i enjoy the rocks, so i need to come up with a better set up for my exhaust.
i need to tuck it up and out of the way. What kind is the best for the rocks. i dont care about performance, i need it out of the way and street friendly. It cant really hang out the back, I'll smash it. any photos or ideas would be great. i have a 97 xj 5 inches of lift, 33in tires.
thanks

Kinda limited as to what you can do but I would say making it as slim line as possible and just keeping it tucked up to the body not sagging then just cut it off a little short after the rear axle and throw a turn down on it.

I am running a Flowmaster 40 series 2.5" piping cat to the rear, cut off right where the rear shackle sits, so it won't get smashed.. the only thing about my setup is my hangers are stock length.. so it keeps it hanging a bit low for what you are looking for.. but that can be very easily modified by cutting the hangar length and rebending the hooks to hold your exhaust up.. from all the people I have talked to thus far, the Flowmaster mufflers seem to be about the best holding up to the abuse like using it as a skid and such..

One Idea I've been tossing around is making a slider/ side pipe setup an internal muffler core would keep it from being to loud. An other alternative would be to custom bend some pipe and oval it in a press so it is really up and out of the way with custom hangers like the hotrod folks do their exaust systems.

Mine is protected in the back by the spring. It is cut off short with just the slightest turn down. I haven't hit it yet.

I turned mine right at the beginning of the rear wheel well. As for tucking there's not much you can do. I would recommend using some flex pipe on the cross over. I see that your in petaluma (I'm assuming Ca. ) that being the case you can't move the cat or you'll fail smog. My biggest issue though was always the tail pipe being smashed so it got moved.

You would have thought he would have put a matching one on the other side for the intake :D

Being that big it could be dual purpose :D

i havent been to cow since they put all the rock gardens and stuff in. only been up there in the winter. usually go to rubicon, fordyce areas. i havent taken this jeep anyplace yet. maiden voyage in october, trying to get it ready.
i love the truck stack out the hood deal. its perfect right in front of your head and lined up with the front pumpkin, that way you you can line her up and mash it!
thanks for the ideas. i think i will cut it off close to the muffler just past the hanger and turn it down a tad. i have herd that the flowmaster off road series is a good one to get after i mash the stock one.

If its a big concern and ya got the coin, you could build a exhaust system using oval pipe.

Oval piping is what a lot of the kit car/hotrod guys use when ground clearance is an issue .. so should be the same purpose here right.. LOL.. Yeah the Flowmaster 44 series are awesome for offroad abuse.. I know I have bumped my 40 series a few times and not really left too much damage on the muffler.. mostly just scuffs and scrapes.. I haven't gotten to do any real rock crawling with it either though.. oh wait.. I'm up in the NE of the US.. we don't really have rock crawling:bang::sad0147::bang:.. man.. I need to get out of here!!

Spintech mufflers will take the abuse too. Made out of 1/8" steel and oval tubing compatible.

I agree with the oval tube, I looked at it a few months back.......also, I've seen a couple guys exit ther exhaust thru the lower rocker behind the rear wheel.

Guess I know what I am going for after my current exhaust falls apart.. going for oval piping and some spintech mufflers.. was looking at the spintech's when I was looking to replace my factory falling apart exhaust..

Yeah and I bet it sounds good with that 4.3L too!! Mine is a newer exhaust.. so I shouldn't have to worry about replacing it for a bit!!

Yup. Sounds big and bad. I have set off a few car alarms with it.

Oh I can imagine.. I know what a 4.3L Vortec in a S-15 sounds like with a 2.5" exhaust with factory cat and flowmaster 40 series.. so I can imagine what it would sound like with your setup..
