I wonder is Dana 44 LSD a strong aksel?
I just found out, that i got a dana 44 not a dana 35, as i tought
Is the dana 44 better or worse that the dana 35
and how i's it compared to Chrysler 8.25 27-splines and 8.25 29.Splines.
And how many Spline does the Dana 44 have?
I do not know any Thing about this axel, so ,
i would be greatfull for any replays,

IF you have a 44 then all in jeeps name is good for you! They are great axles can withstand 35s pretty easily

The Dana 44 is a strong axel and in a stock form will handle 35" diameter tires with a locker in any conditions. It is much stronger than the D35. It has 29 spline axles and is upgradable to 35 spline alloy axles which you could never break on the XJ. The limited slip differential is probably the Traclock that Spicer made. They are not as good as the Power Lock of earlier years. But they work. There many gear ratios available for the 44, much more options than the 35. The 44 is the original axle of choice in all Jeeps since World War II until the mid 70s when Jeep started putting weaker axles in the rear of Jeeps.

I was always under the impression that the Dana 44 was only in 87-90 models only. Perhaps some found their way into 91s or perhaps it is different for the export market. e.

Most of us would donate the L T to have dana 44's under our rigs stock. I know I would much prefer to have a dana 44 out back and one up front. It would make deciding on lockers sooooo much easier for me. With my C8.25 I don't have the option of the E locker I would prefer to have in both places. so I'm checking JY's and U pull it's to see if I can find some at a reasonable price.

I saw a couple D 44's at the new JY next to me... Need to go back and check on the condition and prices
