Norwegian physicist and Nobel laureate Ivar Giaever has quit a major U.S. physics society due to its stance on global warming, a spokeswoman for the group told AFP Thursday.

"I can confirm he has resigned," American Physical Society spokeswoman Tawanda Johnson said, noting that Giaever, 82, sent a letter to that effect to the group's executive director Kate Kirby on Tuesday.

"His reason is that he takes issue with APS's stance on climate change."

The APS, which has a member organization of 48,000, adopted a national policy statement in 2007 which states: "The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring."

I would have to take the stance that global warming is not fully supported in scientific fact. The stance that activist and politicians are taking is diversionary retoric, over simplified and slanted towards creating panic in the general populace so they get to keep their "jobs". What can not be denied and scienctific results do confirm is that we are in a period of global change. Weather wise, Look at the permafrost prediciment, the fact that the ice pack is receding, these are however small changes in the overall picture. It isn't a wonder that politicans are grasping at this and other natural changes and pointing their greedy fingers at it. They are trying to divert the people from noticing how much they have messed up the way of life people thought they had. It takes away from the fact that most of the world is having great financial problems, countries are bankrupt and prices are going up up up all over the world. wages are stagnant or falling and jobs are dissapearing every day. The politicans must divert the truth that they are the biggest problem facing all people by trying to say "look what's happening with the weather, it's worse than failing economies! No it isn't, what happens in nature will happen with or without the help of people. Yes we are posioning our water supplies, yes we are poisoning our air supply, yes we are poisoning the earth that gives us food, but nature will recover if people stop the posioning. economies are different and the failure of economies is what usually starts wars, civil or otherwise. Civil wars threaten the politicans job and life. It is not a wonder that they are trying to take attention away from the fact that they failed the people they are supposed to be serving and have ignored the needs of the people for so long that they think they are above the laws.
