My Texas wildfire picture thread.

As most people that aren't hiding under a rock know Texas is suffering from the worst drought since the 1950's. We are having an exceptional amount of wildfires. Nearly all of the rural areas in our state are protected strictly by volunteer firefighters. Due to this fact we must all work together to stop a fire when it get's out of control.

Over the last week I have been to several large fires. When the action gets a small break I try to document what I can on my camera phone. I decided to start this thread so I could share some of the sights I have witnessed. I'm sure we are far from being "out of the woods" (no pun intended) as far as seeing the end of these fires.

9/9/2011-
Mangum Rd. fire near Livingston, Texas. Quick response from 4 departments stopped this illegal trash fire gone bad. This fire was in my home district. We only lost an abandoned mobile home but manged to save several homes in the area.

9/11/2011 Tri-county fire Magnolia, Texas. We went to help with the final mop up on this fire. The objective was to stop anything smoking so they could open the roads and let people come "home", if they still had one.

9/13- 9/14/2011 Truck Flip Fire- Groveton, Texas. This fire was started by a fatality log truck accident. My wife works with the deceased drivers wife. Sad day. This fire was in the growing stages when we arrived. There were dozens of departments involved. The active fire was inside a very tall (and strong) game preserve fence and also had a LPG pumping station in it's path. At one point my truck became trapped between the fence and a crown fire. Our only escape was to ram the fence resulting in a damaged fire truck. We escaped with no injuries.

Thanks for the pics, I did a stint as a smoke jumper (two seasons), that brought back some frights I had in fire fights. hope all the fire fighters made it and make it in the future.

I had to help close the road at the fire at George Bush park in Houston a few days ago. Damn work truck still smells like smoke.

May I contribute the pics I took today while driving though Bastrop... this is the biggest wildfire this year in texas I know it ended up covering somewhere around 40 square miles
