Well I'm a big MMA fan and I would assume that some of you are fans too.
So I thought why not make a thread where we can share and discuss some of the upcoming fights as well as past fights and other MMA news.
I will try to add news and updates that I get from mmafighting.com, Facebook and twitter.
This first news I haven't read yet but I will a soonas I finish this post.
Alistair Overeem joins the UFC and his first opponent will be Brock Lesnar.

Started getting into MMA about a year ago. Still learning all the people. I mainly just watch UFC stuff. Some of the other fights are just boring. My first time to hear of Overeem.
The Jones and Rampage fight should be a good one!

If you have showtime you should check out strikeforce. A lot of the fights there are really good.
They have a women's division and those girls know how to put on a show.
I hope I can go out to see the jones vs rampage fight I haven't seen one in a while

I am not very knowledgeable about MMA but it interests me. For those who are into the sport, can you tell me if Frank Dux is widely considered one of the "fathers" of MMA or not?

I was disappointed too about Diaz not fighting GSP, but looks like this reporter took it personal.

Maybe its before your time, but the movie Bloodsport was the first to start a craze about mixed styles and no holds barred matches vs the earlier Kung Fu movies with subtitles. The main charachter's name in that movie was "Frank Dux" played by Jon Claude VanDam. The movie was based on the real-life story of Dux who won the "Kumite" world underground fighting championship, while undercover for the CIA and US Military.

Not sure if you guys will care.. but since this is a MMA thread.. I saw on a TV special the other night about kids in Europe that are doing basically youth MMA matches in a cage in clubs.. There are kids as young as 8 doing these matches.. granted it looked more like youth wrestling than anything.. but thought I would post up on here to see what you guys thought about something like that goign on.. I'm not a big fan of it.. but the way I look at it.. they are going to do the fighting anyways, so at least they are doing it in a safe are, where medics can be call if something bad did happen... just like backyard wrestling.. kids did it regardless of what the law and parent said.. it is just a matter of what was ever called in if it got out of hand medically or otherwise..

Lesnar is a pu##y. I hope Overeem ends his career!
Wait, strike that! I hope Mir gets to end Lesnar's career. My guess is Overeem beats Lesnar and Dana tells Lesnar he's finished unless he can bring in a huge audience for Mir vs. Lesnar III :D

Cannot believe Rampage lost as bad as he did. I expected it to be a much better fight. Maybe Rampage should go back to acting? :confused:

I know the Bloodsport movie... I've watched MMA as we now know it since Royce Gracie and Ken Shacmrock. I haven't seen/heard any talk about him.

I like Diaz as a fighter... but I think Carlos Condit has a better chance at beating GSP.

It's not only in Europe. It's all over the world.
I agree with you that they are going to be fighting anyways so if they do it in such a manner that medics are on site... that is way better than the way I grew up doing it. I had to hide fights/injuries from my parents! I blamed "dog bites" "bike crashes" "tripped over something" - ETC! At least the parents these days know why their kids need a band-aid. :smiley-laughing021:
Also: I pitty the fool/crook/thief that messes with some young kid properly trained in MMA.
Scenario:
Scum bag thief to young kid: "Give me all your money!"
Kid to scum bag thief: "WHAPPPP!"
Medic/Police to kid: "What happened?"
Kid to Medic/Police: "I think he tripped?!?"

Is anyone else confused about the UFC fights tonight?
I watched it on FUEL like I was told... NO FIGHTS WERE SHOWN! Only after all the prelims were over I learned I was supposed to watch it on the Internet?!?
Then I thought FUEL would show the Heavy Weight Championship but then some snow boarding show came on?
I searched all the FOX stations but none of them was showing the fight. I did a search for UFC on my dish and found the fight on the KCYU channel.

On a different note: Overeem is going to kill Brock on December 30th. :D
FU Dana White! (UFC) You just lost my respect. Not everyone is rich and can afford to travel to each UFC event as well as pay for the UFC tickets! Either show ALL the fights on TV for a reasonable price and keep gaining more and more fans or not. Just don't tell those of us that cannot be there at each fight in person to shut up if we want to know more about the fights.

All the fights except Velasquez vs. Dos Santos were shown on Facebook or on foxsports.com for free.
The FB fights actually streamed in HD surprisingly enough. All in all, it was a pretty decent card.
I'm glad Dos Santos won, but I'm sure Dana White wanted more of a show for his first primetime event.
Sonnen didn't look good last night. He better really step up his game when he fights Silva.

I figured it was to sell tickets, get his name out there kind of thing. I think it's stupid as well.

I like it. It's entertaining. Plus it gives the sport a little extra exposure now that they are on fox. Also it does help sell tickets and when he can renew his contract I'm sure it will earn him a nice raise.
As far as his performance it was not as good as it could be and he has some work to do before his rematch with silva
