I just replaced the motor in my Cherokee last week and everything worked good except the temp and oil pressure gauges.

My Cherokee is a 94 with 4.0 motor and AW4
the motor I put in was from a 97 grand Cherokee automatic
I took almost everything of the 97 motor and used most of my 94 stuff.
The only things I kept from the 97 was the oil adapter, distributor, ignition coil, and thermostat housing.

I just have no idea where to start looking to see if I can get these working.
Do you guys have any ideas?

Oh I think my sensors are working cuz my electric fan comes on after a little while.

No can do. The 94 is an OBDi and the 97 is OBDII. They just aren't the same animal at all. You will have to run the old sensor from the 94. Also FYI, your gages are run on a 97 by the ECM It is all drive by wire

I can see how it would affect the oil pressure gauge since I kept the adapter from the 97.
But how is my temp gauge not working though if I used the sensor from my 94.
I would assume the sensor is working since the E-fan comes on.

I am not sure, but I do know the sensors are different as well as the ECM and you cannot mix the two

87-95 had the temp gage for the dash in the back of the head. the ecu is in the thermo housing on 91-95. in 96 and later it went to the thermo housing for both the ecu and the dash. jeep also change the head in 96 because of this. u need a 91-95 head for ur dash gage to work right. for ur pressue gage i would say put the original back in or buy a new 94 pressure sensor.

Ok so for the pressure it should be as easy putting in the sensor fro my 94 motor, right.

And for the temp I have to replace the block for it to work.

just the head I think is what they are saying.

You should be able to just plumb in a 94 sensor somewhere that you can find a water port. I really cant see why that wouldn't work fine. As for the oil go back to the 94 sensor.

Oh. Yeah I meant the head. Not sure why I typed block

Well I do have the sensor from my 94 in the thermostat housing.

Maybe I need to use the thermostat housing from 94 motor, could that be it
