I love wood decals on a car.
Now my Cherokee is subject to this.
Here the first successful trials.

Not to bad.

We use just decals for interior use, very cheap.
Hope this lasts at least a year.

Very cool. Wood decals are not popular in the XJ crowd here, don't know why. If I could suggest, apply some UV protectant to keep the color from fading.

I never have cared for the "wood" stickers since they aren't wood. Now if you want to put some veneer on there that would impress me.

That'll look pretty cool when finished out. I love woodies but I am more on the side of real wood, even though that takes keeping a good coating of marine varnish on there so it doesn't fade away and become ugly. That's why they came out with the vinyl "stickers" so you could have your wood look with out the fuss. I await the finished job pic. looking nice so far (don't forget the tail gate).

Don't go tempting me. I have thought of an genuine Maple burl dash bezel. I have some tables I made out of large burls that the wife doesn't want to use. They are just sitting in the garage.

OK, one more post, this is Cheroks thread. Jaguar XJs have burl veneer on the dash. Why not go with a Jeep having a big chunk of the tree instead. One ups man ship at its best I think:thumbsup:

Where can I buy real wood for a 94?

They never did have real wood. That stopped happening in the late 40s in this country. It only happened in the first place because Henry Ford was so cheap he couldn't throw away wood from packing crates, so he made cars out of it.

Yesterday we were at our American car meeting in The Hague.
Positive reactions from my friends on my wood decal project.

Great. It does look good. And looks like you did a good job too. Are you going to put trim around the edges with anything?

looking great. If you wanted real wood on there, you would have to make the panels yourself along with the trim border. but then you would be in the once a year marine varnish the wood phase. That would be fine if you only use it on road but going off road with a real woody would mean you would be worring about scrapes and gouges. What you have going is looking great, I'd stick with it unless you are looking for show stopping and never plan on off road adventures.

The progress of the day. Did the backdoor. Just some finishing touch to do.

The car looks almost as new.

For those that are interested, google up "exterior auto woodgrain vinal". Bunch of sites that sell auto grade vinal that came on factory GM and Ford wagons. I re-did a 95 Buick Roadmaster several years ago using the 3-M product. Looked factory made and since it is automotive grade, holds up like factory original.
