To bad there are not some better photos. The front looks like has been hot on the long side only judging by the rust. I think the diff gears and locker if it has one is OK. You will need to replace the driver side u joint, and seals though. If you are looking to get the rear to match, I think it looks OK too. Diff got a little hot, but it doesn't look to bad. The question on that one is if the gears got hot enough to take the hardness out of them. But if you are regearing anyway, go for both.

A front TJ Dana 44 from a Rubicon I would pass on. Especially seeing how it has had a questionable life. That axle will offer very limited benifit over your current axle. Yes, the ring gear is larger, but that is the only benefit you will have. If you think you can run larger tires, wrong. The knuckles, ball joints, and U-joints are exactly the same as a Dana 30. You would be better off putting new ball joints in your current axle and buying some chrome-moly shafts for it.

TJ Dana 44 axles are not the same as older Dana 44 axles, front or rear. As an example, I ordered the Dana 44 in my TJ. After 2 years I had to replace it. Replaced with an old school Dana 44, no problems after that.
