im looking to re-gear my 88 XJ (5 speed), i have a D30 front and 8.25 Rear with 3.08 gears. im running 31" tires. im trying to run 4.10 gears with a Limited slip in the rear, is it worth it to get all that done or go another route?

I drive my XJ everywhere, around town, long distances, off Roading / Mudding

Also what will i need to buy to get this done? im looking to buy everything then take it to get installed.

I know i need a Carrier for the front

Well im a cheapskate. If I had a 5sp on 31's I would just get a D30 and a later model 8.25 with factory LSD out of an auto with 3.55 gears. Around here that could be scored for $300 or less.

and because I started to look at doing the same thing, I would say it is the easiest way in addition to being the cheapest..

just trying to score such axles around here lol (and money too)

plus if you get a newer d30 it wont have the axle disconnect. Just make sure you keep it HPD30.

X2 this would be the cheapest way to go !!!!

Would his current drive shafts work 100% of the time, or is there something he needs to watch out for if he goes to the newer axles. Also I would think that a 97+ Chrysler 8.25 would be preferable since it has 29 spline axles.

Drive shafts should be fine, all the same ujoint at the pinions. And yes the Newer 8.25 is a good sugestion.

I need spell check...
