Don't remember which can is better, the type you have or the type with the screw in cap. Are you going to resell or just seeing if you got a good deal?

Best I can tell that is a 1944 water can, not for fuel, can't be sure about that. It was built by NESCO ( not sure what that means), there were several manufactures of those cans. One was USMC, United States Metal Co., not the marine corp. Should be easy to research.

I believe the W on the top means Water, from what I have read.

Odd it smells like old fuel, has a cork gaskett on the lid, uses a level type mechanism that seals the top. I bought it for $20 but thought it may be good for a persona resto on a old military jeep. If I do sell it I don't want to give it away,... Lol

Someone probably did not know it was a water can and used it for fuel. Of course I don't know how they could miss the big white W painted on it, but whatever.

Yes Jensen, that is a water can. I used to have both. The gas cans have a threaded spout area. If it is in good condition and no rust inside so it can be used for water, contact G503.com or steelsoldier.com They can give you a good value, and you might be surprised what those guys will give you for it.
