I am curious about that round shape on your hood ? Is that a vent or something ?

Yes it, s a vent hole to let some heat out, it's a 3" screw in access cover with cover out.

It gets hot enough to cook soup, hood soup

Its not a soup warmer, its a coffee warmer I use mine all the time in the winter for that and sadly it works :o Welcome from Nor Cal !!!!
