Well, I bit the bullet and ordered my lift. (6.5" long arm) Now I am saving for tires. For whatever reason I want to go with 35s. I do not plan on upgrading my axles at this time. I read all of the time about "you cant go 35s with stock axles".

What I want to know is who is running 33s and who is running 35s on stock axles? What issues have you actually had and what have you done with this setup that people said you shouldnt do? Please include issues with steering also.

I have a d30 and 29 spline 8.25. I plan to do trails and rocks with my rig. Please feel free to comment with information based on actual experience.

Thanks!

I'm running 33" on mine right now and its done fine so far. You will want to go lower on the gearing though, especially if you do any highway driving. I've got 3.55 and its tolerable over 65, but not much. Inclines and any wind other than from behind will drop my speed quick and make the engine work harder to keep up. I'm having 4.11 put in now, but for 35"s you will probably want 4.56 according to the gear/tire size charts that are out there.

Ive got 33" tires on stock D30 and Stock 8.25 27 spline with 3.55 gears. Gets wheeled hard and have had NO problem.

I ran 35s on a LOCKED 27 spline 8.25 and open 30. Never had a problem and I wheel hard. You just need to drive smart and keep from binding any tires in such. 4.56 gears. Never drove on the highway with the 35s but with 33s it felt like stock performance.

This thing had a nice body when I got it... I shrunk it down to it's current size. LOL (I do not own this anymore)

Whether or not you can run 35s depends on where you wheel and whether or not you have lockers. You can run 35s on a D35 on the street and not have a problem. But put a locker in it and you will. Running in mud and mild trails is a totally different thing than in large rocks. The biggest thing about 35s and a front D30 is the unit bearings and the steering box mounting on the frame. If you do that, I would suggest some steering upgrades.

Keep in mind modestmar00xj has a 2000 XJ so he has a 29 spline Chrysler 8.25 rear axle.

I have the 29 spline also. I am going to lock front and back with 4.56 gears.

I ordered a steering brace as a start to help on the steering issues. What else is recommended?

I haven't had to do it but I believe the Dodge Dakota, or Durango steering box is a good upgrade.

Yes, it is. You will recognize it by the larger round nose on it which houses a larger hydraulic piston in it. They come in the V8 models

they are 36's... bias ply which weigh more, so far I really have only noticed a drop in torque and power but thats understandable
ANYHOW after this weekend I should have some offroad experience and also FYI im on the dreaded 30/35 combo with 3.55 gears

Hey don't forget to update your specs. Still says 3.55. Congrats on the new gears, boy does it make a difference on and off road.
