I want to change the after cat o2 sensor on my XJ but I can't get the old one off. I have the proper socket but the sensor won't budge. I read some where that I shouldn't put lubricant on the area, not sure if that is good advice though. Its an awkward spot the o2 sensor sticks out an an angle which is up towards the underside of the vehicle. Would running the vehicle to heat up the area help?

Yeah try to do it while the exhaust is still hot. That should help, but be careful.

Yes, heat is the answer. Then use anti sieze compound on the new one.

I just used an open end wrench and a hammer, while the exhaust was hot, and was able to remove mine just fine, but it wasn't budging using the socket when the exhaust was cold... so you should be ok with the socket once the exhaust is warm.
