So you are just replacing the small electric fan, or both?

You need to realize that a 16" fan on an 11" tall radiator will not flow 2500 cfm unless you make a good shroud for it. It would be more like 1800 cfm

or could i mod a mechanical fan shoud for the 16in eletric?

That is my point. A lot of people will take something like a taurus fan, cheap and with 4800 CFM and just bolt it directly to the radiator and loose much of the efficiency of it by restricting the outer edge. To be of full benefit you either need a 10 or 11" fan preferably with a shroud or fashion a shroud the will allow the 16" fan to be back about 2". Really high CFM small fans are not nearly as cheap as the others. If you want a cheap 16" fan, the Taurus fan is the way to go. Mudderoy has a two speed controller he picked up for one but hasn't installed yet.

The shroud is very important. You won't get the air flow of the fan otherwise.

My mechanical fan is 15"

I would say yes to that 900 cfm. Just remember, no fan will be much good with out a good shroud.

For the record guys: I switched over to two 99+ e fans a few weeks ago. Other than that, my cooling is stock but also have a winch in front.

My temps go just slightly above 210 in some conditions (including highway) but it was doing that before the swap. I'm pretty sure I'm due for a new 2 or 3 core. I had a csf on my old 96. Is that still the go to unit?

I've been reading about a Champion 3 core all aluminum for $200 here recently. I'm waiting for someone to install it and report back. I'll find the link...

You sure? I did some hands on testing and came to this:

Stock 99 E Fan

Engine On

Amperage:
Over 10A as it blew my meter.

Average: 2304.08 CFM

Dual Fan:
Average: 4,608.16
Min: 2,842
Max: 5,390

I'm sure I read it was under 1000 cfm, 800 I believe. I read it on a forum though. I even bought a electric fan based on it! :out:

Prior to seeing this information (on another post here with the link to naxja.org) I thought the mech fan was about 2900 CFM and the electric fan was about 800 CFM. Which mean I needed about 3,700 CFM to equal the stock set up. More would be more better.

update time. cheap fans from amazon. my 12 inch and my 14inch. temp about 40ish idleing
finally added my 14inch fan i had for 2 weeks. wow does it kool down faster then with just the 12 inch lol. and the best part is that there both wired in with the factory wiring :) idles up to 210 turn on cools down in like 3 mins to 185 ish turn off with switch 215 forgot to watch temp gage turn back on give little gas likke at a grand 5 secs to 210 then about 10 more secs to 195- 200ish turn jeep off. very happy cant wait to get my 2 16's or buy the 3 10inch lit from one of the venders. that would be cheaper buy my 2 16's would flow more cfms... hmm choices to make. this is a repost from one of the other trends on here
